Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has T♠ T♥

fold, fold, Hero raises to 4 BB, MP calls 4 BB, MP+1 calls 4 BB, fold, BTN calls 4 BB, fold, fold

Flop: (17.5 BB, 4 players) 7♦ 7♠ 4♣ Hero checks, MP bets 3 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 3 BB

Turn%s: (23.5 BB, 2 players) 4♥ Hero checks, MP bets 10 BB, Hero calls 10 BB

River%s: (43.5 BB, 2 players) 9♣ Hero checks, MP bets 53.5 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 53.5 BB

I check called the flop because the bet was so small. The terrible bet size makes me think this villain doesn't know what he's doing. If he has something I'd expect him to bet 1/2 pot to 2/3 pot or more to check. He has to have a 4 or 7 in his hand and this is unlikely.

When a 4 appears on the turn and he bets..again small for the pot size I called thinking what are the odds he has a full house? Unlikely that' he'd have a single 4 or 7 in his hand... so he'd have to have quads..again...unlikely.

When the 9 hit on the river and he went all in I thought he's basically representing quads but his bad betting his telling me his a fish...or he has 99. He could have JJ or QQ but that would just be unfortunate for me. Finally I'm putting in 1.07 to win 1.97...

Should I have folded here?

Hiya

FLOP
First of all, why don't you bet the flop? By not betting you miss a ton of value from lower PPs who will gladly call you on this flop. This is a big mistake in micro limits.

People are generally passive in these limits, especially fishes, so when they bet they have something good. And when they bet in a 4way pot, they do have something good. Although folding TT on the flop is too weak, I would be cautious.

TURN
Again, small bets usually means weak PPs, whatever random hand they have, so calling here is fine.

RIVER
When the fish shoves, when a passive player overbet shoves, whatever worst hand you think he has, he does have it. So folding here is mandatory. Do you expect a fish to bluff bet 3 times and shove the river thinking you will fold overpair?

CONCLUSION
The most important thing is that you didn't bet yourself. I want to stress this a lot - value bet! This is like the main mistake in micros that people make. You can value bet your TT all 3 streets here and people will call you with weak PPs/A highs.

As played, river is definitely a fold. I don't expect the guy do ever bluff in this spot.

Good luck!
David

hi.

i agree with dawidas to some extent, though it's questionable as to whether you have 3 streets with TT here. But his PF range does seem pretty wide. I would suggest betting on the smaller side for the Turn and River bet to ensure that hands like 99/88/66 continue calling on multiple streets.

Thanks.

This hand was weird..way outside how I'd normally play it.

The hand developed as we went, and I reacted based on how the villain was playing and on tendencies I've seen at this limit. It's only .1/.2 remember. I've played 30,000 hands now and I've noticed some things.

Flop: One big thing I've noticed is there is almost NO way everyone will fold on the flop if there are 4 people, and it's even rare with 3 people. On a flop like that I could bet but what happens when 2 people call? or all 3? This would be pretty typical. So someone calls...and an over card hits or a card making a flush or straight more likely...what then? I check fold. If I don't and they call, what do I do on the river. Check fold...I just wasted a bunch of money. My only outs are tens...

As it was I was planning on check folding, and since he bet such a small amount I called....thinking he didn't have a 7 or a 4.

Turn: I checked again, I'm OOP, hoping for him to check. I still have an overpair. He bets...again small amount, I'm now putting him in the fish category as his betting is so bad..so I call...I'm putting him on a bluff. Though in the back of my mind I'm thinking I fold on the river.

River: I still don't think he has a 7 or 4. I literally said "I'm going to regret this" after thinking a bit and called. I had him on an over pair like JJ QQ or an AK/AQ bluff..or on quads and I was being a total sucker. In retrospect it was 99 I should have been worried about since he went crazy when the 9 hit.

As it was... he had 10 9 offsuit. I won. The reason I posted this was to make sure that calling was a stupid as I thought...even though I did win.

Having said that, I have seen a lot of big bet bluffs at this limit.

Flop: If people aren't folding, it means you have good value here right? If people are calling all sorts of crap anyway, then make larger bets to get fewer callers.

Turn: I prefer betting myself. Passive players will often check back weaker made hands when checked to - This makes you lose value and you only pay off better hands while letting weaker hands off the hook

About his actual holding - We need to make good default plays vs the average NL2 player. I won't claim to know NL2 players since I rarely play it but I still do think that betting is better. It's not often that you have a total donkey here calling T9o on the Flop.

Of course, his 100/33 over 3 hands stats do indicate that he's pretty bad but our read is not solid enough.

Hiya

I second mbml's advice. People at NL2 are very bad when it comes to calling light.

Some advice on how to play small OP in these sort of spots.

FLOP/TURN
Bet for value. The fact that you indicated that you don't feel comfortable playing OoP means that you need to do more work away from the tables, posting and analyzing hands. I played NL2 somewhat recently and I had a nice winrate there. As I said previously, bet flop and turn for value 2/3 of the pot. Remember, when people call it's a good thing, because they will have worse hand more often than good one :f_eek:

If people call and overcard comes (J, Q, K) bet again for value. There are still many hands that you beat. Reduce the bet size to 1/2 to allow weaker players to call.

If A comes, you can bet smallish again or if you think people bluff a lot, x/c once or twice (depending on the opponent).

If flush comes, bet as people not necessarily are on a flush draw and you can still get value from weaker holdings.

Just remember, you are always bet/folding because if someone is raising in this spot, unless you have evidence that the guy is aggrodonk, you are behind (more on player types here - http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/78/micro-stakes-full-ring/three-basic-fish-types-427948/ )

RIVER
If river is safe, as in this case, you can still go for 1/2 pot value bet. In many cases your biggest mistake will actually be not getting value from MP yourself.

If you were to bet appropriately for value, you could have shoved this river for value yourself.

CONCLUSION
Value bet! Super important.

Hope you will take something from this mate! :f_biggrin: I hope to see the aggression and bets coming!
