BB: $10.50
UTG: $10.00
MP: $8.17
Hero (CO): $10.00

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is CO with K :diamond: A
1 fold, MP calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.40, BTN raises to $0.80, 1 fold, BB calls $0.70, 1 fold, Hero raises to $2, BTN calls $1.20, BB calls $1.20

Flop: ($6.15) J :spade: 4 :club: T :diamond: (3 players)
BB checks, DaPhunk wonders why the flop seems to be JT high so often when he holds AK.

Note1 - Preflop I thought I could make my 4bet 1/5th stack because I heard this can be a good amount to raise to preflop with 100bb effective. I do not recall the logic though so if anyone someone knows what i'm talking about it would be helpful if they could reply.

Note2- I'm not essentially interested in this specific hand, just on holding AK on this board texture. That said my villains are - BU- 34/19 on 91 hands with 11.5% 3bet. BB- 24/11 on 75 hands. Ask for more stats if required.

Forethought- I have come across general flop texture JTx quite a lot whilst holding AK and its always feels somewhat awkward on whether I should cbet or not. I am actually mainly talking about 3bet and 4bet pots here but it can also feel a little bit tricky in some single raised spots, eg, when you open EP with AK and MP for example calls and we see this flop (I'm trying to pick a spot where ranges are somewhat tight). I often feel a little at a loss for how to start thinking about this spot to work out whether to bet or not to bet.

Question - How should I break down these spots so I can review/analyse them myself? We don't completely miss but it feels like our equity isn't great and villain should have hit the board a decent amount of the time and can put pressure on us.

Hi DaPhunk,

Preflop: Given the amount of money in the pot I think that 4-betting this small is a big mistake.

20 BB would be fine if for example you opened 2.5x he 3-bet to 8x and now you make it 20x. But here you have so much money in the pot that you essentially are giving them great prices to call and we want to charge for that. I'd make it at least 25-27 BB here especially with at least one fish.

Given you are multiway there with not much and caught between two guys we should ck/fold the flop.

Generally speaking we have gutshot + overs and sometimes backdoor. If you play HU it's easier to bet and expect to get called by some worse (gutshots/oesd) and fold some better (lower pairs).

The key here is that you are multiway so the chance you'll pick up the pot (FE) is reduced significantly. So that's the best way to break it down. Even with a BFD it would be hard to bet.
