Poker Stars, $0.05/$0.10 Limit Hold'em Cash, 9 Players

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with J J
UTG+1 folds, Hero raises, 6 folds, BB calls

Flop: (4.4 SB) 7 J 3 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Turn: (3.2 BB) 9 (2 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero calls

River: (9.2 BB) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB raises, Hero calls

I'm guessing I'm too timid in this hand on the turn.

i know it is But it would be much better if you just forgot the result .. like the result dont really matter all that much . the result is luck based. what we can do is doing everything we can to make us have the best chances for luck to give us the pot.

I think you played it fine

Once he bet-3-bets the turn his hand range turns into straight/flush/worse sets/"I don't know what I'm doing" hands

Although that said, if he was playing like a standard TAG exploitatively you could say he would have raised most draws on the flop so now you may very well have a cap with your top set but most TAGs generally don't donk out the turn.

If he'd have just check-raised the turn I'd advocate 3-betting for sure and then just sighing and calling down if he caps

I like the way you played it, his check/raise on the river is at least inventive so make sure you note him for it

Okay so continue as before until I get into more advanced concepts
like really differentiating my opponents.
I feel like a real newbie right now with 100 areas not covered. _confused:
