its a 12bb effective shove. i dont play sngs/tournies much but that seems to be pretty standard to me

That aside, standard shove with 99. Will be even trickier for him to play oop if you just flat vs his minraise and flop comes 2 or 3 overcards to his 99.

I don't play much SnG either, but isn't calling 12bb w J8s a bit loose even BVB? I mean he should be pushing pretty wide here, but isn't our calling range supposed to be a bit tighter due to ICM?

He is the Chiplead and can basically shove any two into you here. J8s is a very clear fold, no need to get involved in such a pot.
