After villian checks back turn I think he has a mediocre hand that he wants to showdown so I think the river is a bet for value.

I have no idea how to correctly play this hand on the flop.

Hey,

I think your line here should be to lead flop. You get way more calls than bets as bluffs or thin value here. You miss out on a lot of value from pairs, A high and even some overs call here at least once. As played with the initial check, you played it fine.
