open 3x w/A4s MP

Preflop: I decided to call because I know that villain is open with any Axs hands (Empirical Evidence)
Flop: villain checks back. He would cbet w/ flush, TP , OP, flush draw. I'm not sure how he plays JJ, TT in this board IN POSITION but probably check back hands like 78, i'm not sure if he gets 76s type hands but if villain is able to open 87s, he may open 76s too. This check back means air or medium pair 7x, 88, 66, 55, or air and AK something like this.
Turn: I decided to bluff bet turn and river. I attack his weaker range. Villain calls. I know that he calls ones because of notes w/ 87s. So if I want to force him to fold bell range I have to bet on the river too.
River: bet hard and villain reraise me. WTF? it was my first thought.
General truth: people don't bluff raise rivers.
I assumed that he holds hands like 66 or 76- probably this one.

What do you think about my thought process. Check it please.
Thanks.

Hi UnknownJoseph,

Preflop: Given that he calls a lot vs 3-bets and folds a lot to cbets I would definitely consider gaining initiative postflop.

It's no fun playing OOP without initiative with hands like this.

Postflop: He could have been slowplaying some flush already and it's possible he had some full house by the river. At the same time you are definitely polarizing your range with that bet so if he sees you as aggro he can bluff raise.

Hey bogdan,
preflop would you call here any non paired hand? You said its better to 3b cause of his folding frequency I think its good, but dont you think AJo is good enough to call and 3b hands like Axs? I mean I would rather 3b this AJ than call but this guy seems like a target to light 3bets, so If we 3bet with AJ we will probably 3b him too much and will have to fold to his 4bets too often.

thanks

If we assume that he calls more we can expend our value range, can't we?

AJo would be at the bottom of that range imo especially if calls Ax hands.

The problem with AJo, ATo and similar hands is that they are very hard to play OOP without initiative. Think about what plans you have with the hands and how you will do postflop.

Yes of course he could but why? if he slowplays something on the flop he must have reason for doing it. I don't remember that we have sick dynamic.
He saw me bluff raising rivers but no more... I was bluffing on the turn after check turn but never continuing bluffing on the river.
It was first time when I decided to bluff bet turn and bluff bet river because of my gathered notes.

before I start calling AJo oop I analyze this opponent, I examined his hands and make a notes about his habits postflop.
and I'm closing the action I'm the last here so it's very similar situation to btn vs bb
i don't know the reason for 3betting here for what...
maybe i'm wrong

He is opening in MP so it's definitely not the same as BTN vs BB, and it shouldn't b e treated as such.

He is clearly not opening that wide.

The 3-bet with AJo would be to gain initiative and some thin value vs his calling range and thus making it easier for us to play postflop and put pressure on his range (I think I explained that above).

Of course calling is an option but playing OOP with offsuite hands is not easy, especially vs EP/MP ranges.
