Poker Stars, $0.08/$0.16 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

CO: $16.44 (102.8 bb) nitty regular, 15/14 over 370 hands, isnt very aggressive.
BTN: $18.97 (118.6 bb) weak reg? 19/8 over 700 hands, passive
SB: $18.97 (118.6 bb)
Hero (BB): $18.84 (117.8 bb)
UTG: $16.16 (101 bb)
MP: $22.44 (140.3 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 4 5
2 folds, CO raises to $0.40, BTN calls $0.40, SB folds, Hero calls $0.24

Flop: ($1.28) K J 8 (3 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.80, BTN calls $0.80, Hero raises to $3.04, 2 folds

Preflop: Not a big fan of such holdings OOP (we can face domination problems), but i decided to flat, because they are offering us quite nice price. In SB i would consider folding.

Flop: Once PFR bets into 3 people he should have Kx i guess. Maybe good Jx. Things get a bit complicated, but i think i dont have much options other than raising with my 5high. What about check/calling? Sizing is fine?

Hi,

I think a call is better on the flop. You almost have enough pot odds plus you've got some implied odds because CO seems to have a rather strong hand.
I don't think BTN has SC for a flushdraw often because there were no callers yet. (Please correct me here if I'm wrong, but people don't call with SC often when there are no callers yet, right?).
I'm just worried about 2pair, sets etc shoving when you raise.

Then you should have a plan already what will you do on the turn and river...You check/call turn also and if you dont hit check/fold river?
Once i check/raise into 3 people my line should look really strong. I dont care much about BTN, because he called small preflop iso raise and called cbet IP. Biggest question is about CO, can i get him off from like KT or so...

If they shove, we have quite an easy decision.

My far-from-expert opinions says that the wet flop causes him to put you on a draw and thus he refuses to fold.

If I called I'd play by pot (implied) odds, just passively playing my non-nut draw

Hi gAsheks,

What I find interesting here is that you are not questioning your preflop play at all here and jump straight to the flop.

Remember what we talked about in the past :) Question all the streets.

Given we are OOP with a very speculative hand why not just 3-bet and take initiative? I would.

As played I think raising is ok. We attack the dead money and can make better hands to fold including some better draws.

3betting 45s, raising this flop... this is a part of the agressive strategy I seem to have missed :O

Keep in mind I said that I prefer to 3-bet 45 over calling it. It doesn't mean we should always 3-bet :)

Playing draws passively, especially non nutty ones in multiway pots such as this is a sure way to lose a ton of money :)

Yeah, missed this one. :( It was like: "i have to call a little to see a flop". So far trying to use blocker type hands for squeezing. Will try to use these one too. General reason for squeezing is position and his "smallish" open? With hand like T9s you would go for squeeze too?

You would raise to something like 1.80$ here?

It's all about how we play postflop.

Think of how 45 would play postflop vs other connectors.

If we squeeze I'd go for about 1.7-1.8. The fact that he opens smaller in CO and the other guy just calls helps us a lot because we can assume that both of their ranges may be on the weaker side, especially the callers.

Opening 2.5x in CO is small sign of weakness. Im inclined to 3bet them and see how they react (usually make a note). This time there was a caller so i was passive :(

The caller is what should incline us more because that guy creates more dead money with a weaker range. Almost all value hands would 3-bet such a small open there.
