Hero posts SB 40, BB posts BB 80

Pre Flop: (pot: 120) Hero has J♥ J♦

fold, MP raises to 187, fold, fold, Hero raises to 500, fold, MP calls 313

Flop: (1,080, 2 players) 5♦ 8♠ Q♠
Hero bets 500, MP calls 500

Turn: (2,080, 2 players) 4♦
Hero???

First. What is the flop plan vs his stack size? Cbet/fold? C/c? How many streets of c/c if this one?

After these questions read spoiler:

Spoiler

Turn: (2,080, 2 players) 4♦
Hero checks, MP checks

River: (2,080, 2 players) 9♣

Do we have a small vbet/fold vs TT, AK? I think these hands will check behind but might pay a small vbet. And only better hands are going to bet or raise my vbet.

Hi all,

I make it 520 or so preflop, maybe a bit more. 500's fine though as long as you're aware that villain should probably flat most of his range here.

Flop: we may not have the best hand, but there are so few good turn cards for us. I would definitely bet here, I don't think check/calling is really an option. Betsize is good, we can size it even bigger but not much bigger IMO.

Turn I'd check/evaluate, most likely check/call.

River: 1/4 PSB is best here. We lose some value against TT, but villain can read our bet as weakness (correctly) and bluff-raise us. We can then call it off.

this but i make it ~1/3 river bet we lose value vs TT but villain will rarely raise Qx way hand is played so we also make it like blockish bet

as 1/4 size with plan to calling raise imo i dont like it vs nit( if that is your read) cos i dont think he will take that line caling preflop/ calling flop, ch turn and rasing river with air

vs random is ok to take chenny line vs nits i think 1/3 pot and folding to raise on river is best or just check and call cos he might turn AK into bluff / take a cheap stab after u ch 2x times, but i dont think that nits will make bluff rasie on taht river

Yes I agree, that if I bet river I rather b/f, than b/c. It is very unlikely, that this nitty player is going to turn something into a bluff.

Btw you don't put villain on QQ+?
Just because I think we can thin vbet vs AK (1/4) pot maybe TT (1/3 pot) and we are beat by 99 & QQ+. Is this range assumption correct? Or he rather bets turn / raises flop with monsters?

I would c/c turn and expect us to go showdown very often.
he can have there flushdraws or some worse pp-s and JJ seems just too strong to c/f turn

best regards,

You're not going to get raised on the river very often. When you do, once you bet very small like 1/5-1/4 pot, you can then call it off profitably IMO.

The value of this bet comes from when your opponent looks you up. You lose some value against TT, but very often you gain a bet (even if it's only 1/5-1/4 pot) against a lot of very mediocre holdings that will not typically pay off a valuebet.

I think tiny bet/fold is fine too though if you really think he's a nit, though nits do stupid things sometimes.
