I would alwyas just shove prelfop here. A MSS will 3bet very wide and you as BU want to not fold too much to his frequent 3bets. Given how small his stack is, you should usually just jam vs his 3bets.

As played, what can I do postflop?

Call down or bet when checked to like you did is the way to go. You should not expect folding equity vs any hand in his range that has equity. Ofc he folds air anyway.

Too much money already in the pot. Way better to shove, it's about the equivalent when someone 4bets to about 21bb when you are 100bb deep... So much money in the pot that shoving is better.

sounds about right. do you feel that opening 3x on the button with MSS in the blinds is way too large, even if that opening 3x is in your overall gameplan? (i think it's too large in any case but i open wider than most)

Yep, unless he is a nitty shorty I would always minraise when there's a pro short or midstacker behind. Sometimes 2.5bb is also OK but I am now talking any position, not just BU. People still can't call or 3bet wide with an aggro shorty behind so you just put in less dead money into the pot with the smaller size and force shorties to risk the same for less.
