Value bet the turn, he has a lot of weaker 8x and most Tx he will c/r the flop with, he has a lot of gutshots that might (but shouldn't) continue as well as a few OESD.

As played we just can't fold the river with the amount of weaker 8x in his range, as well as the fact that he c/r a lot of Tx on the flop and the weakness you showed in checking behind the turn allows him to bluff with his busted draws.

I'd say a more realistic river betting range based on his preflop and flop action would be:

This!! 2nd pair top kicker is amazing here and even with your analysis we have an easy call given our pot odds!
