Hi,

If you ever want to widen your 4-bet range (I would assume you´re 4-betting with AA**, KK** and AK**) then 9988ds is perfect hand to do that.
You have 43%! equity against aces
Hand Equity Wins Ties
9d9s8d8s 42.98% 257,651 443
AA** 57.02% 341,906 443

and he misses quite often postflop that you can go basically most boards.

Postflop I like your raise. I would make it 28BB to look more bluffy and give him more shove equity. Likely I would not fold at any point so calling flop, shoving any turn should also be fine

best regards,

I'm not so sure how to approach about widening 4-bet range.
Reasons why we're doing it is because our opponent has really wide 3-bet range or we are against short stack?

If we say that we're against top15% (No AA) AKJTds has ~55% equity on 50% of flops.
AQJTds have bit over 50, but with 9988ds we have "only" ~48% on 50% of flops.

Of course with AKJTds we're way more behind AAxx what we would be with 9988ds, but i think that we shouldn't just look our equity against aces, but also give few thoughts about villain's range.

Every player will probably put us on aces when we 4-bet. So when he 3-bets with wide range, he also will call us with very wide range. That's why i would rather go more towards high card value (because of wide calling range) that just raw equity against aces.

Sure 9988ds is decent hand for both purposes, but i'm not totally convinced that should it be in our range before high rundowns.

I know this is very theoretical thinking because honestly, do we like ever have to have wide 4-bet range with 100bb.. :)

Hi,

i would say 4betting 9988ds is a terrible idea. Sure it has good equity vs AA, but it never has an equity edge. When you flop a fd it's often dominated, so i much rather 4bet higher cards. So yeah i'd much rather 4bet AKJTds than 9988. Why would you fear a 36% having AA? You want a hand that plays good vs his entire 3b range, not just ace which are a very small part of it.

As played looks good, get the money in.

Skod

Perfect Hand to call a 3bet. I agree with Skod.

On the flop, I wouldnt necessarily go for a raise, because it hits villains range quite nicely. I´m not scared of a better hand that much, if he got us, he gets our stack and thats fine. The problem I see with raising is that I don´t think we have a wide, or even any bluffraisingrange at all on this flop. So I don´t think we can expect to get a lot of value from worse hands that wouldn´t stack off the turn anway.
The only reason I see for raising is to avoid losing money against AK on a diamond runout, but then again, we might save money against AA/KK if a diamond falls.
But the main problem I see with raising this hand, is that our flatting range becomes really weak. Villain will be able to barrel us off a lot of our holdings that we like to flat in that spot so I think its very valueable to have a hand as strong as a set in our flattingrange.

Hi,

agree with styx528's point for sure. I was more trying to point out that going broke on this flop can't be bad. I'm not really sure tough i don't like just raising here after a second though. After all, the guy 3bets 36%. It's not like AKxx hits his range that hard. And we don't need to have a calling range vs him as a default.

If he likes to fire a lot of turns but doesn't stackoff light, then i would like a call a lot. The problem is i'd dread making a bad fold on future street when a QJ or diamond hits. I prefer avoiding these spots vs a fish lighting money on fire

Regards,

Skod
