Spoiler

BB wins 30.08 BB

1) do I have to defend speculative hands vs unknown, and try not to let him exploit me with 3bets? Or fold exploitatively until I get more info

2) postflop is very similar? I made a nitty fold, mostly because of his big size on turn, it is mostly bet size tell imo

Hey GingerKid,

Preflop open is fine, and definitely fine to defend IP vs this small 3b. I would defend these hands vs unknown but I wouldn't defend vs large sizings.

Flop call is pretty standard with TPGK on this texture.

Turn exploitative fold is probably fine vs an unknown here if we assume most guys are not 2barreling as much in 3b pots as they should be. Vs a reg I would probably call 2 and consider folding river.

Vs reg, what do you then call on river? If i fold Kts, I would be really folding too much on river. or you also meant exploitable fold, because peope dont barrel river blanks that much?

Hmmm, not convinced we'd be folding too much if we fold KT on the river. We should have AT combos + some overpairs (provided we are not playing with a capped range preflop).

I flat JJ preflop and some combos AA (2). So I would have on river 8 combos overpairs, AT, which is 20 combos.

If I fold T9s, tjs, TQs, KTs, thats 12 combos, which means I fold 37%, should be ok. I think I am raising flop with sets, but dont have to then it would be even better, and would raise AA, so KTs should be borderline.

Yeah, exploitatively you might raise flop with sets - in which case not sure how much sense it makes to think of river purely in terms of game theory. Because theoretically we should flat some sets on flop otherwise are calling range is capped right?

So generally speaking if we are not defending our range in a balanced manner on earlier streets (which is totally fine) and we become capped, it usually will make sense to overfold on a later street rather than try to compensate by calling down wide.

Yes, sure from gto perspective, I should not raise all strong hands on any street.

I am not sure though, if i have 9 combos set on flop, I raise 3 combos, and have 6 ramining in calling range, which is still small % of my total defend range, same on turn.
so I think this is not important at all in late positions, where ranges are wide. Similar argument, why we are not cold calling BB vs BU with premiums.

Yup agreed that the wider our range the less of an impact a certain amount of additional combos will make.

The impact on the river will be more than earlier streets though since our range has been narrowed down the most there.

And yeah, in practice can often get away with 3betting all premiums BB vs BTN, but theoretically we should flat some so that our cold-calling range isn't capped on certain flop textures.

How many premiums do you slowplay and which, if not big secret?

I think that on "some boards" i guess you mean low boards, we cant avoid being cappt even with adding some premiums. On river our range is narrower, but we have to overfold exploitatively at least some street. On such a flop we have around 90% weak hands, so I think it is the best to fold flop. And those boards occure really rare, so I am not sure if it is good enough reason to slowplay premiums considering how much value we lose with 4bet.

Yeah, keep in mind it's a theoretical concept. Might be considered similar to the idea that it's theoretically correct to sometimes check/call top-set on a draw texture rather than bet or x/r. It's theoretically correct, but in reality our EV is higher by playing unbalanced vs the vast majority of opponents.

Anyway, it's not just low textures but also dry textures. For example K23 BB vs BTN. It's possible we don't have 22/33 and the strongest K we can have is potentially KJ.
Usually ends up meaning we have to defend some pretty weak hands in order to not be exploitatable on flop. But yeah, we always just have the option to overfold if we don't get exploited that much.
