Playing the little pots

As suggested, this is a little pot, but one where I ended up completely confused!

I thought I was ahead given the action on the flop and turn. Firstly, villain has an AF of 12 over a small sample size. I expected him to raise my Cbet or float and bet the turn, which I would call. When he checked the turn I thought he had showdown value, such as a small PP, or middle or bottom pair on the flop. His raise on the river indicates a 2 or a highly unlikely flush, right? Do we call? Do we bet the turn?

I think I need coaching...

I think you played fine. Really good to make a thin value bet on the river. Most of the times you get a call from small pairs and some A highs. So nice bet and nice fold. No reason to bet the turn, maybe for some protection, but really, protection from what ranges?

Hi pokerboy,

Depending on BTN fold to flop, fold to turn stats second barreling the turn with your 2nd pair isn't such a bad idea.

BTN won't really have enough equity to call his flush profitably.

I dont say barreling the turn is a bad idea. But check is also fine. U dont get a call from worse hands. And against the smaller pairs u can only get 2 streets of value anyway. Both decisions are fine.

Barrel for a free showdown makes sense.

free sd? worse hands are under a ton of pressure and his range will be kinda strong otr, so when we check river he can play pretty much perfectly by vbetting like at least KT+ and bluffing us with 98 or w/e

i think hand is ok, we could also consider a flop x/c depending on how you make up your ranges.
his river raise is narrow as hell but i don't think we should be looking him up with no info, just going to see A2 way too often imo
