I am still new to on-line poker and recently found official poker rankings. One thing that seems consistent is a lot of players 2 to 5 years ago had 6 to 8 star ratings and were winning thousands of dollars and now the majority of them have 3 to 5 star ratings and are winning a few hundred dollars. Has the quality of players gone up that much?
Hey billnmex,
Our wonderful game of poker is constantly evolving. A lot of players coming back to poker after a 2 year plus break can't slot back into the games they used to be profitable at.
I was chatting to a guy a couple of weeks ago who used to be profitable at $15 SnGs pre Black Friday. He has recently made a comeback and after having a go at the $15s, is now playing $3.50s.
Cheers
Laz
Unless you have a time machine its not particularly relevant imo. There is still money to be made.
To be a winning player nowadays you need to study a lot, you cant just grind, as did those guys with 8 stars back in the day, now imo it is more laike- more study is more money, back in the day it was more like - more you are grinding more you will win.
what is the star rating? VIP status on pokerstars?
if u have good work ethics and an above average intelligence, it's still possible to become a winner. just a lot harder - No more easy money.
The game of poker is constantly evolving. The players that don't evolve with it because they think they don't need to are left behind most of the times.
Don't let this discourage you. Almost everybody has the mental capacity to become a winning player, but very few people have the willpower to do so. Willpower depends on yourself!
