Hello,

Was my turn raise correct? Somehow I think I should have just called it... and then push all in or a small bet to induce all in on the river.

Poker Stars, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players ZOOM

SB: $7.77 (77.7 bb)
BB: $12.97 (129.7 bb)
UTG: $16.18 (161.8 bb)
MP: $12.78 (127.8 bb)
Hero (CO): $21.05 (210.5 bb)
BTN: $31.88 (318.8 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with K K
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.25, BTN calls $0.25, SB folds, BB raises to $1.10, Hero calls $0.85, BTN calls $0.85

Flop: ($3.35) 8 5 K (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, BTN bets $3.20, BB folds, Hero calls $3.20

Turn: ($9.75) 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $9.31, Hero raises to $16.75 and is all-in, BTN folds

Results:

Spoiler

$28.37 pot ($1.28 rake)
Final Board: 8 5 K 4
Hero mucked K K and won $27.09 ($13.48 net)
BTN mucked and lost (-$13.61 net)

Thank you,

Hey 599ALG,

BB is not deep enough that we mind stacking off. I would just 4b pf and avoid the multi-way pot.

Flop play is fine. Texture is dry so I'd just x/c.

Turn play is fine. We almost expect villain to be committed here. It wouldn't have made a huge difference to the hand if we'd x/c turn seeing as it's unlikely villain bluffs river when he will have a small amount left on river compared to the size of the pot.

Thank you for your reply.

(Great coaching yesterday! Really helped!)

'BB is not deep enough that we mind stacking off.'

How deep the BB should be so that it would be correct to mind stack?

Thank you,

I was hoping that he will call the turn raise showing the set of 555 or 888 / or sometimes just AA.

Hey 599ALG,

Glad you enjoyed the coaching, hope to see you next Monday!

How deep we can stack with KK is villain dependent, but somewhere around 170bb stack sizes it becomes non-standard to stack with KK and can be a mistake.

By raising turn we maximise potential value from draws - we could miss value from these by not raising. Sometimes we may get paid off a little wider by made hands if we play turn passively but at the risk of losing value from draws. In other words there is not much in it.
