TPTK play?

I find playing TPTK very tricky. Would appreciate comments on this (rather embarrassingly bad) hand:

Villain is basically unknown. vpip/pfr of 30/10 over 20 hands.

Edit: This is actually NL4 not NL5!

6 players
[SB] hero (4.22)
[BB] (6.14)
[1] (2.42)
[2] villain (4.54)
[3] (4.14)
[But] (4.22)

hero K♥ A♦ Initial Pot: 0.06

villain raises to 0.08
2 folds
hero calls 0.06
1 fold
### FLOP ### K♠ 3♣ Q♣ Pot: 0.2
hero bets 0.25
villain raises to 0.7
hero calls 0.45
### TURN ### 2♥ Pot: 1.52
hero checks
villain bets 0.96
hero calls 0.96
### RIVER ### T♣ Pot: 3.44
hero bets 2.47
villain calls 2.47

I put villain on Kx, Qx or pocket pair which is obv. far too restricted a range. Should also include flush draw. Clearly not thinking enough.

I am not really sure what I was thinking with that river bet! That is obviously horrible. I think I was trying to rep. flush draw.

Anything else to point out? Would appreciate general comments about how to approach this too. Is the call from the blinds too passive? Maybe betting the flop with the flush draw is too risky?

Edit: just trying some things with equilab, with a villain range of 22+,ATs+,KJs+,QTs+,ATo+,KJo+,QTo+, I am apparently still 73:26 on flop. Turn doesn't change anything. By river, I think the only hands that will call are TT+,KJs+,KJo+ and I am then 43:57 behind. Does this seem reasonable?

Lets go :)

1. If this is Nl5, why do you only have 4.22$ at the table ? Rebuy ! ;)
2. 3bet it ! I wouldnt coldcall this even in position vs pretty tag player, out of position 3bet with AK is A MUST!
3. Why donkbet on flop? Any good reason ? :P Your betting line looks really reckless :P
4. If you would 3bet preflop, your postflop handreading would be much easier and all decisions also.

edit: Anyway, if you put him on flushdraw, why didnt you just showed allin at turn instead of just calling?

Thanks for this

1) - it's actually NL4 - should have specified in title. There is no NL5 on iPoker as far as I can see.. Have added edit to original post.
2) - do you mean 3 bet preflop and/or postflop?
3) My thinking for the donk bet on the flop was to try to charge flush draws.. However I realise that then my bet on the river makes little sense!!??
4) Yep - I can see that. In retrospect the 3 bet preflop would have really helped. I guess I was trying to conceal my hand by calling in the blinds but it came back and bit me.

- push all in on turn does make a lot of sense, and I am not sure why I didn't.. Would have put villain under more pressure in most situations. However, I didn't really want to go all in on this hand. with just 1 pair. So, again - why that river bet!!?

Yeah, what a reverse hand. You bet when you must be checking and reverse - you check when you must be betting.....
In fact it is not that bad to just call that hand pre-flop vs MP. This way you keep all his Ax hands which you heavily dominate in his range.
You already know that pot donk the flop is a mistake. Now try to give him a range with which villain raises flop. Remember it is not his full MPrange but just a part of it.
According to the range you assign him on flop, let's evaluate our equity on the turn and make decision.
River completes both the FD and the SD.... the donk bet is awfull. The range you gave him on river is not ok.

Thanks.. I will have another go and see if I can come up with some more believable numbers tomorrow.

How does this look for raising range on flop:

QQ+,AKs,KTs+,AcQc,AcJc,QcJc,JcTc,Tc9c,9c8c,8c7c,7c6c,AKo,KTo+

Following turn card, my hand is 55:45 vs. this range - so I guess this makes betting the turn better than checking? Once it comes to the river, I am 25% dog vs. these - so I can see my bet made no sense - and there is no way I should ever call the all-in, as that would be even stronger - probably KK-QQ,KQs,AcKc,AcQc,AcJc,QcJc,KcTc,JcTc,Tc9c,9c8c,8c7c,7c6c,KQo. Don't think anyone would ever bluff on that board..

you should be 3betting this preflop ESPECIALLY in this case. villain only minraises - i'd 3bet here to around 30c. if villain made it 12c preflop then make it 40c.

as played, check-call the flop unless you have a read that he basically never cbets unless he has the nuts. in that case donking is probably ok, but you don't have reads on him.

on the turn AS PLAYED you should barrel yourself since you bet the flop. what are you afraid of? KQ? if your thinking was "if he calls my flop bet i'm scared of KQ" then you shouldn't be betting the flop. i don't think you have the information to make that assumption though. so bet flop, bet turn and see the river.

as played on the river i think you should probably check/fold because this is the worst card for you.

here is how the hand should have gone:
(1)3bet pre, villain folds.
(2) 3bet pre, bet flop, villain folds.
(3) 3bet pre, bet flop, bet turn, villain folds.
(4) 3bet pre, bet flop, bet turn, hate life on this particular river and check/fold, otherwise jam river on the majority of other cards.

if in any of the above scenarios villain raises instead of calling or folding, it is pretty disgusting and we should probably fold since he is telling us "i beat AK".

i doubt it is very useful coming up with a raising range for villain on this flop since we should probably not be playing any of our hands like this. i don't think you should work on that. instead you should work on coming up with a solid preflop strategy i.e. not flatting AK vs a minraise from UTG. it will be much more useful for you.

hope that helps...
