In this hand, I'm pretty sure he is bluffing but I don't have an hand to call with -- or do I?
This hand is the final table bubble, I'm 2nd at the table, and second overall.
There were 507 entrants, and 5 get paid.

Note: I think I should played bet/fold on the flop (about 55% of the pot) -- what do you think?

Thanks,
VS

First of all I moved your hand to the hand discussion board :f_wink:

I don’t think you could bet/fold on the flop against the short stack, because he has only 13k behind and if you bet 55% pot your committed. I set him all-inn here, because your blocking the nut flush draw and it’s not to likely he hit this board at all. I expect he will fold most of the time.

The river would be close. You only beat A high or worse and I don’t think he risk his tournament life with that on the bubble.

Best regards,

With him being so short in the BB I probably open to 3x or maybe even 4x to commit him.

As played just set him in on the flop, 15k in the middle and he only has like 12k left, we have two overs and back door nut flush draw, and most of the time we will have the best hand.

I don’t think its wise to invest more chips pre-flop, because you have the chip leader also that need to act on your raise and if he 3bets the pot will be a lot bigger if you raise more first in and you don’t want to play a big pot against him on the bubble.

If we make it like 10k here and sb 3bets he must be very strong so you can fold AQ quite comfortably to a 3bet from him

I think it’s a waste of chips to raise pre-flop bigger on the long run and than you need to tighten up your range as well, because your committing yourself against the BTN as well if he shoved. Off course in this case you would call anyway, but you want to give him a idea you can still fold against him.

1-Your pre-flop raise could be a little bigger when you take into consideration everyones stack size, but it is O.K. as played
2-Your check on the flop is definitely wrong. I would make a continuation bet big enough to put him all-in. The only way he calls is if he has a pocket pair or a Jack. Every else he folds. Even if you lose you are still in great shape. Why wait for a decision on the river as you could be winning here and get outdrawn by giving him a free card. And even if you are losing you still have backdoor draws and an Ace could hit.

I purposely did not answer your question as to whether I call the river or not as I never get to that decision the way I would have played it.

I think that the bolded part of your reply sums up the thread.

Thanks!
