Defending the big blind

hi, i am pretty good at defending my big blind ,most cases calling or raising with suitable links or even 3 gappers,
IN my theory (that i learnt here) to stop players stealing them.
This works pretty well,and i have taken some good pots even putting my BB on profit.
BUT ? I have a question ,this works in reverse because when you do get a premium hand AA KK KAs.I dont make anything on them because all players are folding and not trying too steal.
So is this big blind defence off mine wrong or should i let them be stolen a bit more?
