Hey guys...

Full Tilt - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

MP: 55.5 BB (VPIP: 56.25, PFR: 14.58, 3Bet Preflop: 4.55, Hands: 49)
Hero (CO): 264.5 BB
BTN: 112.5 BB (VPIP: 10.42, PFR: 10.42, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 49)
SB: 99 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 1)
BB: 180.5 BB (VPIP: 22.52, PFR: 11.71, 3Bet Preflop: 0.98, Hands: 343)
UTG: 825 BB (VPIP: 25.86, PFR: 20.69, 3Bet Preflop: 15.00, Hands: 59)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♠ A♣

fold, MP raises to 3 BB, Hero raises to 10.5 BB, fold, SB calls 10 BB, fold, fold

Flop: (25 BB, 2 players) 5♣ 3♥ 6♣
SB checks, Hero bets 25 BB, SB calls 25 BB

Turn: (75 BB, 2 players) 3♦
SB bets 25 BB, Hero calls 25 BB

River: (125 BB, 2 players) 9♠
SB bets 38.5 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 38.5 BB

And here's what I thought:

Pre-flop:
Standart 3-bet.

Flop:
Pot size c-bet for protection. The board allows flushes and straight draws.

Turn:
Villain donk bets 1/3 of the pot. I don't think he has a 3 nor two-pair or straight draw, because he cold called a 3-bet, so I think his cards are high or pocket pairs, so I'm thinking he has an overpair, sets, or was semi-bluffing with a flush draw, so I call.

Against the following range I have 55% equity.

Board: 5♣3♥6♣ 3♦
       Equity     Win     Tie
CO     55.21%  55.21%   0.00% { AdAs }
SB     44.79%  44.79%   0.00% { 66-55, AcKc, AcQc, KcQc, AcJc, KcJc, QcJc, AcTc, KcTc, QcTc, Ac9c, Ac8c }

River:
Villain goes all-in, since he had only a few chips left and the pot was much bigger, I call. The 9 on the river doesn't change anything and I think he would bet his flush draws that didn't complete as a bluff. I don't see him giving up a with only 38BB in a pot 4 times bigger.

With the same range as before, my equity now is:

Board: 5♣3♥6♣ 3♦ 9♠
       Equity     Win     Tie
CO     64.71%  64.71%   0.00% { AdAs }
SB     35.29%  35.29%   0.00% { 66-55, AcKc, AcQc, KcQc, AcJc, KcJc, QcJc, AcTc, KcTc, QcTc, Ac9c, Ac8c }

What do you guys think of my thinking process? Would you have done differently?

Villain is totally unknown. So everything I thought was just guessing.

Almost the same except that we don't bet for protection. Perhaps now this thought process worked but you will come into trouble on different types of streets when thinking in terms of betting for protection. We only bet for value or as a bluff. Clearly, AA has enough value even on this flop. After that I indeed would opt in for 'street projection' and let villain bet so we can target some pp and busted draws.

Remove the FD combos. Villain will not donk on paired board with these.

Overpairs are possible, sets maybe (excluding 3), seems like a calldown.

As nitrol said, we could remove FD combos since villain is not likely donking paired boards. I think we could remove straight draws also.. What straight draws does villain have after cold calling your 3bet pre? This seems like a calldown to me.

Thanks guys.

So, his range would probably be 55+. I agree, we can remove flush draws from his range.

I don't think he has straight draws also, nor 3x.

Villain is unknown and we cannot rule out all 3x...

I think villain would have to be super mega fish to cold call 3bets with 3x. 33 maybe.

33, A3, 43s...

Everything is possible but wouldn't you say that A3 and 43 is a bit unlikely?

Well, villain is unknown and I can't say how likely they are. I do not say he has them all, just that we cannot rule them all out...

Hi,

You shouldn't just think he has a flush or str8draw on this board. He still has plenty of other hands that call 3-bet.

On the flop you shouldn't bet this big. Unless villain is a big fish, he will fold anything that you can get value from. As a standard I'd bet here 1/2+ pot versus unknown, and against some more known station or so I'd bet 2/3 or more.

As played, turn donk can be anything from A6 to overpairs, even some combo-draw. So I'd just jam this turn (as played) and see us getting the pot most of the time.

I agree with previous speakers.

Bet slightly smaller on the flop to target the part of his range that isn't medium pocket pairs (they'll be easy to value bet vs anyway).

As villain plays (coldcalling a 3b pre flop and continuing action vs a big bet), I'm going to give him mostly medium pocket pairs and call down. Well played! :f_thumbsup:

No need for rocket science here. Just don't fold (due to pot odds). Involving "ranges" might just mess up our heads to the point that we fold - forgetting pot odds.

There is a big gapof overpairs weaker than ours and we can call down here.
