$0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

SB: $9.71 (97.1 bb)
BB: $14.31 (143.1 bb)
Hero (UTG): $10 (100 bb)
MP: $12.70 (127 bb)
CO: $14.71 (147.1 bb)
BTN: $20.56 (205.6 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with K♦: Q♣:
Hero raises to $0.25, MP calls $0.25, 4 folds

Flop: ($0.65) J♦: 6♦: Q♥: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.45, MP calls $0.45

Turn: ($1.55) 5♠: (2 players)
Hero bets $0.93, MP calls $0.93

River: ($3.41) 4♠: (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $2.10, Hero calls $2.10

Pre: Normal open.

Flop: Value cbet.

Turn: Value cbet.

River: No more value available, but some bluff catching opportunities.

I think that if villain had a set or 2 pair he would normally raise them otf or ott. Now that we get to the river I think that his betting range has a lot of missed clubs and 9T/KT (if he flats them pre..) The only 78 he should have is 78dd.

I think that I would usually be value betting AQ otr here so KQ is the next best bluff catcher here in my range so I decided to bluff catch here when all the draws (expect 78dd) miss.

OTR I think that I lose to AQ and 78dd and then win all his bluffs.

Against most opponents and on most boards, you actually need a slightly stronger hand to check-call than bet yourself. It varies of course, but a good check-call hand here might be KK/AQ. But it all depends most on how aggressive villain is. Versus a timid nit, check-fold is right, and versus a station bet-fold is right. Only versus a player more aggressive than average is check-call with KQ right. Most are happy to check back a pair of jacks+ and might not bluff busted draws.

Interesting. So I guess that AQ with no diamonds would be the best hand to x/call here then.

This time he indeed had a bluff here .

Results:

Spoiler

$7.61 pot ($0.34 rake)
Final Board: J♦: 6♦: Q♥: 5♠: 4♠:
Hero showed K♦: Q♣: and won $7.27 ($3.54 net)
MP showed T♣: K♥: and lost (-$3.73 net)

Have you got some stats from youre opponent?

I really think that you're opponent have flopt his set ore something like KK+/AQ...
The option of check-call on the river is not to strong in this hand is think....

Let us know what you're opponent had...

Maybe you made the right play considering there are two busted draws, both FD and SD. This should make the check-calling range bigger, perhaps most of KK/AQ/KQ.

The general principle isn't always right, but one motivation for it is that with TPDK you very much want to see a showdown, and you want it pretty cheap. It isn't easy to call a near PSB (you don't know the price when you check) with that, it would be much easier with KK. So even if you decide to check-call, you might get bluffed out with KQ. There is also the chance that you nip off a mistaken value bet (e.g. with AQ) if you hold KK.

Don't take my exact wording and holding example at face value. I am just trying to motivate why is often good to have a slightly stronger check-call range than bet-fold range. Reads are hugely important and I'd use the above reasoning only as a tie breaker.

Nicely played.

Check flop and go from there is option as well (esp with BDFD+BDSD).

I would not have KTo in his shoes but still have quite a few KTs (3) and T9s (4) coupla FD's etc.

I'd fold here but I like your call. It makes sense as with value hands you want more hands to call and with big bets you don't get many calls. Well played IMO you beat me to it :f_biggrin:

I like the openner reasoning on check/calling the river. Monsters are probably raising by the turn, so I guess we will be mostly vs busted draws (one pairs are probably checking the river back, except maybe AQ).

I think that with the busted draws we can xc with KQ. If not missed draws AQ is the hand for that.
