Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

CO: 100 BB (VPIP: 21.21, PFR: 18.18, 3Bet Preflop: 6.25, Hands: 33)
BTN: 101.8 BB (VPIP: 50.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 2)
SB: 112.4 BB (VPIP: 18.00, PFR: 12.00, 3Bet Preflop: 3.70, Hands: 51)
BB: 100 BB (VPIP: 16.50, PFR: 9.71, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 104)
UTG: 197.6 BB (VPIP: 11.76, PFR: 5.88, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 51)
UTG+1: 100 BB (VPIP: 17.76, PFR: 4.67, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 107)
Hero (MP): 99.6 BB

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has J♠ J♣

UTG raises to 2.2 BB, fold, Hero calls 2.2 BB, fold, fold, SB calls 1.8 BB, BB calls 1.2 BB

Flop: (8.8 BB, 4 players) 6♣ 5♠ 4♦
SB checks, BB checks, UTG bets 4.2 BB, Hero....

I would like to know if just a call was enough pre-flop. Also, what would the best play on the flop be?

Best play is to call OTF. Folding would be too weak and raising would be overplay imo.

Well, preflop you should 3 bet. I would raise flop as well, but we already might be behind here, however JJ is still pretty strong.

Exactly what Mozzek said.
I dont respect any small raises even from UTG and I always 3bet like 20% depolarised (alot big connected cards that flop well vs their low connectors and pocket pairs). If we get 4bet - oh well they have it, congratulations to them... but TT+ are mostly as good as AA vs small raises. :f_thumbsup:

I think that vs this size it's a clear 3bet preflop. Vs 3x we can mix calls and 3bets. As played, I would call the flop. With a raise we will probably isolate ourselves vs better hands.

I think when he bet on the flop three way, villain has a pretty strong range and call flop is best here!

3 bet preflop to simplify decision after ;)
As played I would fold postflop unless more info on villain (he seems quite tight).

Thanks for the feedback guys! :f_cool:

I'm still learning and therefore I've based my preflop call on the Starting Hand Chart which suggests to Call 20. It's interesting to see that more experienced players actually 3bet preflop :)
The stats suggested to me that the villain was pretty tight and hardly ever does a PFR, so when he did do a small raise, I put him on a range of AK QQ+ and thought that he was trying to suck people in. OTF, he did another smallish bet and given the fact that there was a draw on the board with 2 other limpers in the game as well, I've decided to fold. The rest of the hand is shown below. If I went to showdown, I would have won with a set, but to be honest...if I did call on flop, then I would probably have folded on the Turn when the Q dropped :)

Flop: (8.8 BB, 4 players) 6♣ 5♠ 4♦
SB checks, BB checks, UTG bets 4.2 BB, fold, SB calls 4.2 BB, fold

Turn: (17.2 BB, 2 players) Q♣
SB checks, UTG checks

River: (17.2 BB, 2 players) J♥
SB checks, UTG checks

SB shows 3♣ 3♠ (One Pair, Threes)
(Pre 19%, Flop 23%, Turn 14%)
UTG shows 7♦ 7♣ (One Pair, Sevens)
(Pre 81%, Flop 77%, Turn 86%)
UTG wins 16.4 BB

You can call preflop. 3b if there are active players behind.
OTF it is a clear call.

Just want to point out that this is wrong thinking :)
Calling on the flop would have been higher EV than folding. So even if you had lost this hand because of bad run out, on the long run you will make more money by calling on the flop.

Thanks for that la55i. I guess that will be the next step of my evolution...EV :) At them moment, I would not have time to calculate that

UTG's range is probably stronger than JJ. He shouldn't be bluffing into 3, and AA/KK/QQ/66/55/44/87s beats you. Don't isolate versus that range. The SB/BB can't be ignored either. They have all sorts of shit given the measly 2.2 bb open.

Just to be sure you imply you'll fold as well ?

No, I am just not raising. I am calling. Folding overpairs getting 3:1 in position on the flop is not good poker either.

One virtue of raising would be that it will make the action of the blinds cleaner and easier to read. But there are too many of them (2, not 1), and they are OOP besides. I would raise small if it were 3-handed, and the third player acts after me. I'd buy position in other words.

Another virtue of raising related to the first is "protection". The blinds will get 4:1 to call, and might call with two overcards, and you don't like overcards peeling. EDIT: Forgot the rationale for still not raising. "Protecting" a second best hand has no value either. You also don't really mind the blinds calling with one or two overcards, since they still have insufficient odds, even getting 4 or 5:1.
