I had a KK pocket pair in late position. Most players folded. Someone in middle position raised to 3BB, so I re-raised to 9BB, which he called. Everyone else folded.
On the flop were an ace and two low cards. No particular draws were available. Villain checked and I made a standard conti-bet of 2/3 of the pot, and Villain called it.
On the turn, he checked again and I bet 1/2 the pot; yet again, Villain called.
On the river, Villain bet a dollar, which I called.
He had ace and ten in the hole, so won with a pair of aces versus my pair of kings.
I am wondering whether I played this wrong or whether I was just unlucky?
I was confused by his checking, which I interpreted as weakness, when in fact he had a top pair.
