I felt this hand was not a great play. I am new to PS so this is my first post, hello everyone.

The limp was from the starting hand strategy, I got min-raised so decided to call 20 as we were both over 100BB. Gut shot and back door flush on the flop, poor hand really, so I check-called a CB laying me 3:1. Now I am typing this, I kind of already realise that maybe this was my mistake, I could pretend I called it because of implied odds (because the thought did come into my head) but I guess I didn't really understand how to work out implied odds so I buckled under time pressure and just called on instinct.

That call gave me a gut-shot and a flush draw, he lays me 3:1 again, I call, I think that call was good. On the river I considered making a move, but I don't really have the experience to pull it off and I honestly couldn't even think of the kind of range he would have and what he might fold. I clearly have more learning to do.

So anyway, here's my first post, I hope it works. (I am aware that this level does not need PT4, I just chose to use it)

Hi daxtrader,

Can you link the starting hand chart? I would not recommend limping anything from this position. This is a standard open raise.
Call 20 rule can be used when you hold a pocket pair, so you don't have to think about it when holding a suited connector.
I think you played postflop well.

Well, apart from the limp preflop, postflop you did ok.

Why isn't it better just to fold flop? We have a gutshot, and two backdraws and that's it...
What do you think is his range?

Villain might be very well cbetting with air too, so if we hit 7 or 6 we actually might end up winning the pot. If our hand hits strong, it is quite disguised and we can make nice amount of money. Against his half pot bet we have to defend around 70% of our range.
We don't fold directly on the flop because almost 40% of the time our hand will improve somehow OTT.

Every spade and lower card helps us ... We cannot fold vs 1 single bet.

How did you get to that value?

It might be. Reasoning like "we have to defend this and that percentage" works only if we defend successfully. This is not easy to do when OOP and when implied odds are just barely (not) there. You have to bluff some in these situations, or fold right away. Just calling hoping to hit doesn't cut it. Not saying "always bluff", but bluff some, either from flop and on, or later.

Villain bets 2.5 into 5.5, which means he needs us to fold over 31.25% to make autoprofit. That means we have to defend at least 68.75% to deny villains autoprofit.

That is just a theoretical number and I agree with Yohan that sometimes folding straight away is good. The correct defending frequencies should be a byproduct of us playing our range correctly. We shouldn't have to force some stupid calls just because "we need to defend".

Still I believe this hand is a call. You have at least 14 outs that lets you keep on playing this hand.

As said above, I´d raise preflop. Postflop we are OOP and you are probably new to poker, so I´d recommend you to just fold this OTF. I believe you can find better spots and the ones like this you can just skip :).

I don't disagree at all with la55i. I just want to point out that letting the opponent "auto-profit" in small pots isn't a terrible leak. Most likely, the opponent doesn't have a clue that he auto-profits. He is most likely value-betting as usual (or bluffing with the best hand). Then "fixing" these small leaks by "calling because you don't want to fold" will only make matters worse. First item on the list here is to open-raise.

Fixing these leaks is a matter of NL50+. At NL2 your leak is exploiting them!
