Poker Stars, $2 Buy-in (600/1,200 blinds, 120 ante) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 9 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): 178,938 (149.1 bb)
BB: 76,475 (63.7 bb)
UTG+1: 74,218 (61.8 bb)
UTG+2: 46,990 (39.2 bb)
MP1: 80,242 (66.9 bb)
MP2: 33,556 (28 bb)
MP3: 31,376 (26.1 bb)
CO: 21,976 (18.3 bb)
BTN: 15,500 (12.9 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 9♦: A♥:
6 folds, BTN raises to 2,400, Hero calls 1,800, BB calls 1,200

Flop: (8,280) 7♠: 2♦: K♣: (3 players)
Hero bets 3,115, 2 folds
My exact though process was "this board is very dry and only a King should really continue here, im not afraid of BTN since I think he would push most of his kings preflop and only BB could really have a king here, so I can easily just bet around 1/3 of the pot and hopefully take it down if not, fold to a raise" Does this make sense ?

Results:

Spoiler

8,280 pot
Final Board: 7♠: 2♦: K♣:
Hero mucked 9♦: A♥: and won 8,280 (5,760 net)
BB mucked and lost (-2,520 net)
BTN mucked and lost (-2,520 net)

I think it’s suspicious the BTN isn’t shoving for 12bb effective, but if you think he will do this with a wide range I don’t think it’s bad to 3bet pre-flop to get it in there against him.

Multi way I’m not really a fan of fancy plays against 2 players out of position and I would give up against 2 unknowns.
