Hero (CO): 100 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♦ A♥

UTG raises to 3 BB, fold, Hero raises to 9 BB, fold, fold, fold, UTG calls 6 BB

Flop: (19.5 BB, 2 players) 9♦ Q♠ J♠
UTG checks, Hero checks

Turn: (19.5 BB, 2 players) Q♦
UTG bets 12.5 BB, Hero calls 12.5 BB

River: (44.5 BB, 2 players) 5♣
UTG bets 21.5 BB, fold,

I wanted to make my checking range a bit stronger and decided to check. In addition villain seems to be nitty after 80 hands and I am not sure if have a v-bet there.
As played - river fold?

I think this looks quite okay. OTR you could consider calling some AA combos, especially the ones without As.

I guess you leave value in not betting the flop.
You have got AA
Bet for value and protection

And why calling the turn and folding river on a blank vs "standard sizing "?

A good tight villain should call our 3bet from UTG with about 99-QQ,AK, sometimes maybe AQs.
On this board villains range could actually have quite big equity advantage. He is also more likely to hava the nut range advantage since we shouldn't be 3betting UTG open with QQ,JJ very frequently. Villains range also doesn't have that many draws so our hand doesn't need that much protection. Also I would say we can't 3 barrel this hand here.

So checking the flop seems quite reasonable to me in this case. Of course villain can call pre with a stupid range or make some weird calls postflop. Betting the flop is not a bad idea. Depends how you look at this.

That river could indeed be called but villains range should be quite strong here and I don't see many bluffs. Folding with some frequency shouldn't be bad.

There are two ways of approaching this hand and I think the way hero played this is closer to being theoretically optimal.

A good tight villain? The villain is an unknow, isn't he? UTG villain had only 13 hands, and even with 80 he is still an unknow, no?

Sure, villain is unknown. But when someone is unknown, I prefer to think they are decent players. I believe we make less mistakes if we do not think everyone is a fish unless proven otherwise. That is of course up to you, and you can assign him any range you want.
