40bb isn’t that deep I think, but also this isn’t a great spot to call for almost 18% of your stack pre-flop. Off course his 3bet% is extreme on a low sample, but normal I would just give up and if you have seen him making some crazy 3bets with weak holdings you can also 4bet shove with a hand like AJo I think with the fold equity you will have.

I'd fold pre. BBs 3b range vs EP open is usually crushing AJo. Why would he 3bet getting such a good price unless he has a strong hand? No need to risk a good stack on a marginal situation.

I would have folded it pre-flop.
Flop: I would definitely fold her

Open is fine ofc, now fold to his 3 bet.

- We could consider to call his 3bet since we are IP and we are somewhat deep, but only if we close action: which we don't because BTN is still left to act. We would hate playing a 3bet pot multiway with us not having position.

Another reason to fold here is that AJo doesn't do great against his 3bet range. Though we block an A, the A we are looking for otf could be troublesome to extract value from his pp, and could also be troublesome if villain has AQ/AK, which are also 100% in his range here.

pre is a pretty gross spot but as others pointed out folding to the 3b seems best. you are pretty much at the bottom of your ep opening range with a hand that plays somewhat terribly postflop because of rio against a reasonably strong bb vs utg 3betting range. i think you could make a case for defending more suited combos but AJo is just an easy fold.

you arent deep enough for a 4b/f in this spot. also game theoretically you could def make a case for not having a 4b range at all in this spot given how strong the bb 3b is going to be generally. that way you allow yourself the opportunity to flat a little wider ip.
