Hi,

Can someone write and solve full equation for giving big blind odds of 2:1 from small bind

Blinds $1/$2

Assuming everyone folds, what raise size from the small blind will give big blind odds 2:1

Raising to $6 would make the pot $8 and big blind will have to call $4 Reward:risk 8:4 ->2:1

I want to know the full equation in algebraic expression.

This is from memory, so anyone please feel free to correct me

The standard equation is (Pot + Bet)/Bet = odds

In this case "odds" = 2.
(Pot + Bet)/Bet = 2
Pot + Bet = 2 * Bet
Pot = 2 * Bet - Bet
Pot = Bet

Before the deal Pot = 1.5BB
If SB therefore bets 1.5 BB the pot will be 3BB and BB will be faced with 2:1 pot odds

If you wish to give higher odds, then
Just put different odds into the original equation.

(Pot + Bet)/Bet = 3
Pot + Bet = 3 * Bet
Pot = 3 * Bet - Bet
Pot = Bet * (3-1)
Pot = Bet * 2
Bet = Pot/2

In this case, if the pot is $4, and you want to offer him 3:1, bet 1/2 pot -- $2
The pot is now $6, and he must put in $2 to win $6, so he is getting 3:1

VorpalF2F, I think if we raise to 1.5BB from SB the pot will be 1.5bb+1bb= 2.5bb big blind will be 0.5/3 which is not 2:1.
(Minimum raise is 2bb no? :) )
I think we must raise to $6 from the sb in order for the big blind to gets odds of 2:1.
SB raises to $6 pot is now $6+$2= $8.
If bb wants to call he must match $4(including $2 he posted) which is sb raise to $6.
8:4 ->2:1.

Arnalsan I don't get your equation can you write it fully if you don't mind.

Eg: Blinds are $1/$2

(SB+X)/((SB+X)-BB)=2 then X = 2BB - SB then for those blinds level X = (2*2) - 1 = 3

Putting 3 into the formula: ($1 + $3) / (( $1 + $2) - $1= 2 -- this means SB will need to bet $3 in these blind level to you get 2:1 ratio = eg: if SB bets $4 ($1smallblind + $ 3 new amount), you gonna need to add just $2 to play and you get a 2:1 pot odds.

Here is the definition of pot odds from The Basics: Odds & Outs

Pot odds = possible reward : needed stake

In the aforementioned situation, the pot contains $8. You have to add the $2 that are placed by your opponent which makes a total pot and a possible benefit of $10. You have to pay $2 to stay in the game and see the turn card. Therefore the pot odds are $10:$2 or 5:1.

Thus your pot odds are 5:1 and your odds are 4:1.

Now you have to consider the following rule: if the pot odds are higher than the odds of an incomplete hand, you will win in the long run. If they are lower, you will lose.

What would happen if your opponent bets $4 instead of just $2? The possible benefit would rise to $8 + $4 = $12. But at the same time, your pot odds would turn to $12:$4 which is a ratio of 3:1. Therefore it would not be profitable to call the bet, since your odds are 4:1 and your pot odds are lower than your odds. At this point you should fold your hand, otherwise you would lose in the long run.

According to the above, to give a player 2:1 pot odds, you must bet the exact value of the pot.

If SB bets anything more, BB gets longer odds.
