Simple question, should I have called (or folded) and waited for a better opportunity given that villain raised first?

It depends on villains open raise range. But overall it is not wrong. GTO shoves this hand also for example. But I in a 35 cent Sng the villains will be pretty far away from playing GTO. :-D

vs. weak people I dont like to shove so much I try to play as much postflop as I can. Because a weak player will make postflop mostly more mistakes as preflop. Against some people you can even limp at ~7.5bb with your total trash hands if they dont isolate enough and if they fold way to much vs. limp-cbets.

At least never fold. You can take cheap flop with very strong holding. As default I would shove and well versus most its really sort of mandatory play even. Because if villain is even bit active he can have good amount of weaker hands in his range so on many flops your hand still has too high equity to check-fold even without improving. But versus really nitty call could be bit better I suppose.

Depends little bit when villain has been passive because sometimes players will play different when HU start.
