888poker might be one alternative to PokerStars. Although if I remember correctly, the rake there is a bit higher and rakeback system is as crap as stars.

A lot of regs have switched from Stars to PartyPoker. You can get a better rake back (but rake is also a big higher). If you play low limits and/or can't grind a good RB to yourself, changing doesn't make that much sense. Also I'm not sure how the HUDs work there anymore and so on.

Any iPoker skin is ok. You can probably get a decent rakeback. But there the problem is often the low traffic. At some times of the day, the tables might be quite empty. There is no NL10 fast poker running at all, and so on.

Microgaming rooms have the same problem, low traffic.

Asian rooms like Natural8 could offer very soft player pool and good rakeback, but the software is just horrible and no HUDs are allowed.

My research has showed me that there are no perfect rooms. All of them have some pros and some cons. I might be able to help you choose the best room for you if you answer some questions first. 1) how important is it for you that the software is well designed and works well too 2) what games and limits are you playing? And how big your volume is? 3) do you want a high traffic, or is it ok for you to wait to join tables and sometimes play with like 3 or 4 players in the table 4) Can you play without a HUD?

1) as far as software goes, I want something that is user friendly
2) I wanna start small with limits maybe something like 0,10 / 0,25 or 0.25/9,59 and work my way up to 2 /5... I wanna start small so I can lear how to use the poker tools software and HUDs

3) high traffic
4) never used a HUD, but wanna learn.

1) Define user friendly. I think none of them are difficult to use or set up. But if you want fast and reliable software, then it totally excludes GGnetwork. Stars is probably the best. I have played on many poker rooms but I don't remember having significant problems with the software.

2) If you are just starting out, I would recommend the lowest possible limits --> 0.01/0.02$.

3) Excludes pretty much every other room than Stars ♦ I guess 888poker and PartyPoker could have decent traffic too.

4) If you wanna use hud, it excludes GGnetwork rooms and to the best of my knowledge also Microgaming rooms and probably even PartyPoker nowadays.

So now when we think about this, 888poker could meet your requirements. However, the traffic is smaller vs Stars. The software probably worse. The rake probably higher and I wouldn't say their vip system is any better.

If Stars doesn't make you happy, I would consider Party, 888 or iPoker skins. But as I said earlier, there are no perfect rooms, and you might have to make compromises.

rake in ps is pretty bad on micros, but its by no means unbeatable. to be honest, if you are in for the long run, it would make you good to sharp your claws on ps. to say it in another way, changing room in micros just because wont really make a big difference on your trajectory.

The rake in some other rooms is even higher. If I remember correctly at iPoker the rake is 0.5% higher at micros compared to Stars. Ofc on iPoker rooms you can get better rakeback, but it requires some volume of course. Since the new Stars rakeback system probably favors recreational players, then it might be even better for a beginner with low volume?

Also it depends on wich variant of the game you plan to play and the volume you want to put in.
888Poker / PartyPoker & Others can be good alternatives but if for instance you plan grinding on MTTs 888Poker isn't the best choice IMO...

I Think players could give you better options if you are willing to explain the kind of variant you seek to play and the volume you play.Also the time shift because traffic varies with the time obviously and if your shifts are on a downpick that won't be of any use to you.
you can find websites to get informations about traffic of most poker rooms , just use your favorite search engine and search for "Worldwide Online Poker Sites Traffic Report" so before to register to any of them you know if the traffic will match your poker shifts and the average traffic on those poker rooms.
