i expect to be against some kind of draw, more often than a set, is that reasonable expectation, or is it my wishful thinking?

Fold pre. Postflop as played:

Wishful thinking. The board texture is dryish avg. From UG he has a range advantage heavily weighted towards AAxx, only few 98xx stuff. Pair(s)+flushdraw usually check-call. he might bluffbet some more marginal flushdraws but he should not be able to reraise allin with those.

So when you do get it in with bare 2pair, you are either at best flipping against good draws/top-pair+kickers or you are in very bad shape against top- (sometimes mid) set. You block top-set but it is still very very likely he has at least one Ace.

I would have called the flop instead and fold the turn unless you hit a :diamond:-card, :Ax: or :6x:. If you hit a :Jx: ott you gotta play it fast and it might be a cooler I guess. Be aware some nits only 3-barrel with nuts so be careful with the A♦:A♣:6♦:6♣::6x: underfull.
