The only info I have is over 8 hands or so...he had a chance to raise on the Button with 88 but just limped in. He hadn't played any other hands.

Do I shove the turn, or check it?

Pacific Poker - 20/40 Ante 5 NL - Holdem - 9 players

MP: 1,305
MP+1: 1,484
MP+2: 927
CO: 1,425
BTN: 2,205
SB: 1,575
BB: 1,234
UTG: 1,910
Hero (UTG+1): 1,435

9 players post ante of 5, SB posts SB 20, BB posts BB 40

Pre Flop: (pot: 105) Hero has A♦ A♠

fold, Hero raises to 160, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, SB calls 140, fold

Flop: (405, 2 players) K♣ 5♣ 3♣
SB checks, Hero bets 250, SB calls 250

Turn: (905, 2 players) 5♥

I would raise to 100 preflop. As played flop cbet size is fine as long as you shove non club/king turns.

4x open is very bad in my opinion, fishy, u force the players to fold marginal hands that u want to play against .., but i assume you new here , if you open 4x your specific range its maybe ok ..

4x BB opening is fishy? Dammit :( I thought the earlier the position, the higher the bet needed to be? I'm sorry for not being able to quote who said what, I'm confused as between a RukovGrind course and watching twitchers etc I'm confused. The premise seemed to be that if you were UTG or UTG+1 you'd bet 4x, but if you were in CO or BTN you'd bet 2-2.5x the BB to protect your wider range.

You are right, I am new here. I've played poker in the past but with no study I can call upon. I knew the rules and the most basic of things to do with pot odds but I had no disciple etc, I just did whatever felt right because I was younger and nobody could tell me any different.

I'm older with (hopefully) a bit of humility about me. I just want to learn the game properly so I can play optimally and feel good that I can see improvement in my play.

So if 4x is too high UTG, what would you say in $1 SNG's? Do I want 3 or 4 calling stations calling my Aces? I'd wrongly assumed that Aces play terribly in multi-way pots

I am sorry if i confuse you . The 4x strategy is new for me in this kind of format and i dont saw that you open from UTG and yea it seems legit in micro sng open up more ... every hand play hard in multiway pot ,its about knowing how good you are postflop ... if i saw this kind of open i see scared player who dont want to be called so iwant to play postflop with him ..for example if u open from UTG AJs + TT+ , for example AKoff if you dont hit ace or a king u lose 2 more blinds than when you only minraise .... but its only my point of view ...

If people are calling enough then 4x with really strong hands can be ok exploitative line. Good side in micro stakes is that lot of players dont follow that you would change sizings. But not habit I would recommend out of micro stakes as default line.

Problem in opening so big with all of your range is that you commit big portion of your stack to open raise. Even if pot is lot smaller on flop you can easily get usually allin with three streets in postflop. With these sort of effective stacks Difference is that by having smaller pot on flop you are able to make more moves and you are less committed to pots from flop in general. Plus you can play wider range with smaller sizing also preflop.

Thanks for the input guys. I'd love to tell you the range I play with but I'm afraid that people will see it and then use it against me. (I've already seen two 888 micro stakes regs post in these forums!)

Suffice it to say that my range is reasonably tight UTG. I have a better idea of ranges for 6 max because RukovGrinds course focuses on 6max cash. I don't just play AA and KK but I don't get wreckless either - I have 8 people to play against.

I'm using HUD as it stands, and a lot of the players have VPIP's well over 50- 60%! They will very happily limp in to a raise. Even in the case where blinds are 10/20, you get the donk min raise from UTG for 40, followed by two callers. I raise to just a shade over 200 and I will get one or two people calling along...

So in your opinions, what size raise should I be putting in UTG if not 4x? And are you guys advocating a loose range from UTG? Are you both super experienced in Micro Stakes? I've been told expressedly in the course to not make moves, and to follow very simple standard lines. In cash I'd be playing 5nl and SNG's $1 until my BR gets to $300 then I'll play $3 SNG's

3x is enough and depends also on effective stack. E.g. less than 30bb deep I would use just minraise or max 2.5bb. Depends also if there are antes or not.

In such games my UTG range would be something like 88+, AJo+, A9s+, KJs+, KQo, QJs perhaps. Have not been playing full ring sng or micros in long time. But point is that player pool probably play too wide with Ax and broadways. So you want to have hands that dominate them and play ok in multiway pots. Also I would not play wider with suited connectors as you can't take pot downs by representing stronger part of your range. Assuming people are reluctant to fold top pair etc.

At tightest UTG range could be like AQo+, AJs+, 99+.
