A couple of tips:

Explore your options. NL Holdem is not the only game out there, and it's definetely not the easiest.

Tournaments are generally way softer and easier to make a profit. They are also harder/impossible to absolutely master because each spot is so much different thatn the other - you have different stack sizes, ICM spots, KOs... That gives endless possiblity to improve.

If you don't have time for tournaments, check out spin n go's. They take little time, have a ton of weak players, and play like a short stack cash games for the most part. The good thing about those is that even if there is a better player at the table, if you are at least decent, he wouldn't have much edge on you, because of the small stack sizes.

At least try GGPoker's Battle Royales if you are able to play there. They are fast, fun, low rake, short handed and there is no ICM before the final table.

Before jumping in a poker room, see what rakeback, deposit bonuses, rake chases etc. they offer. If you stick to cash it's best to stick to 1 or 2 rooms that seem good to you. With tournaments, you can really choose exactly what tournaments you like and play on 4-5 sites at the same time... if your PC is good enough of course!

If you stick with ACR or pokerstars, a HUD is mandatory. Simple as that. Most of the other sites don't support HUDs anymore, so if you dislike stats, better not play on stars or ACR.

Check out ACR's freerolls! They are mostly PLO and PLO8, but it's some chance you get some cents or even dollars and they are a good introduction to these great games.
