1)I’d played this villain in an earlier session, and this was repeat behavior. He was TAG, so this flop was unlikely to have connected with his hand, and I figured he put me on high cards, and was going for the steal, so I hit straight back at him.

PartyPoker 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (8 handed) Recorded and converted with HandRecorder

Preflop: Hero is CO with J♥, A♠
3 folds, MP3 calls, Hero raises, 3 folds, MP3 calls.

Flop: (5.40 SB) 4♥, 5♦, 4♣ (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets, MP3 raises, Hero 3-bets, MP3 calls.

Turn: (5.70 BB) 9♣ (2 players)
MP3 checks, Hero bets, MP3 folds.

Final Pot: 6.70 BB.

2)Flopping the nut flush draw gives me a 35% chance of completing by the river, which means after 2 callers, I have justification for a raise. I think. I cut out the later limpers, which means less competition for the pot, but should I be seeking more contributions instead? On the turn, my diamonds are good, I figure my Aces are three more outs to best hand, and the eight gives me a gutshot for 3 more sixes, pretty much 15 clean outs to the best hand. So, do I take the free card here, or load up again?

1)If villain is TAG, he either has a small/middle pair or A-high. I dont think i would have been so aggressive in this spot. I would have called the checkraise und folded unimproved on the turn. Either he has got you beat, then you should fold, or he is aggressive enough to make these moves with K-high, then you should let him bluff and just call all the way (has to be verrrrry agressive).

2)The raise is good. You want to protect your outs. With the raise you get BU and SB to fold hands such as Ax (x > 7), which buys you the remaining Aces-outs. On the turn you should generally take the free card against two or more players with a draw. The chance to get them to fold is just to low to justify a semibluff. Against one player you should bet, against 2 tight players you can bet only rarely (depending on flop and their likely holdings). Most players on 0.25/0.50 arent tight, so take the free card instead. And i dont think all the 15 outs are clean. You have to disount them for the possibility of someone holding A3 or A5 (your ace outs arent clean) or someone slowplaying twopair or a set (your flush outs arent all clean).

1) Because of my earlier experience with this guy, I felt sure he was just pushing me around. I felt I had to push back here to settle the question in my own mind. I have no stats on him, but he generally played well, and jumped on opportunities to push people off hands. He'd done it to me twice before, and it just looked like a pattern forming. I had the strongest feeling about it, and just had to act. At least this was not according to my previous responses, so gave him cause to think even if he had a made hand.

2) It's good that my first action was correct, I'm glad about that. My thinking around the outs is definitely flawed, there's a leak right there. I really hadn't considered that any of my outs were anything but pristine, so I have some work to do about properly considering my opponents possible holdings. Given that I have less than the 15 outs, I have less than 33% equity, so taking the free card on the turn is the only choice. It also may set up the situation on the river, where having missed my obvious draw, I may be bet into, and can raise from last position with the far from obvious straight.

Try to be patient and wait for better situations. If he pushes you around than his leak is to be too aggressive. You can exploit that leak, but try to wait for better spots where you can call him down, with hands you would have folded otherwise. Pushing back with nothing is just too dangerous, because once in a while, when he really has a legimitate hand, it will cost you much.

Ok, thanks.
