I never played FL but from what I understod, is much more swingy than anything else since people never fold.
If you want low variance you need to put up lots of volume, that's it.
the worst would probably be 6-max NLHE and PLO (though I don't play PLO).. it's lower in heads-up, but you feel it a lot more...limit is apparently also a soul-crusher with variance...you're gonna get loads of it regardless of what you play, so...learn to deal with it, the earlier the better
DoN's.
Although varriance is part of the game and carnt be avoided...so i'd learn to deal with it.
The higher varriance the game in general the more profitable it is. Yes the downs are worse but the ups are also better
High variance games - SNGs, FL FR, NL BSS, NL SSS
extremely high variance - FL SH, NL SH
fucking insane variance - HU (all formats), MTTs, Omaha
I have played all of these games and statistical variance is always high, but there is a difference in the way they affect you psychologically. Playing HU the variance had me nearly ripping my hair out for example, while with SSS you dont really notice it so much - partly because you can play so many hands that it evens out quicker.
Definitely not any form of FL Holdem or PLO, nor standard SnGs.
I'd say DoNs or Fullring BSS.
Hi/Lo games are actually quite low variance. So even Full Ring PLO Hi/Lo isn't that high variance - since you are basically playing quite nitty and only playing high hands with lo and preferably nutlo potential. As such you are seldom getting scooped in the big pots.
You can play low variance styles at pretty much all FR formats (NL, FL) and are looking at increased variance as soon as you yourself loosen up (or have to loosen up as you do in SH)
