Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $1(BB) Replayer
SB ($122)
BB ($114)
UTG ($251)
UTG+1 ($158)
Hero ($106)
BTN ($189)

Dealt to Hero 9♣ 9♥

fold, UTG+1 raises to $3, Hero calls $3, fold, SB calls $2.50, fold

FLOP ($10) 4♥ 2♣ 3♦

SB checks, UTG+1 bets $6, Hero calls $6, SB calls $6

TURN ($28) 4♥ 2♣ 3♦ 8♦

SB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $17

Original raiser is 23/21 after 63 hands AF inf, cbet 75%(3/4); small blind is more or less ABC regular 17/12, AF 1.7 after 298 hands. I bet out on the turn since original raiser appears to give up and small blind does not show great strengths. Since we often have the best hand here (presumably?) It seems to make sense to bet now rather than waiting for over cards to appear. Reasonable?

Thanks

Yes but SB has relative position so you can't say he is weak

I think I wont check back Turn because of that since you mostly guess on the River whether he has the specific overcard (T,J,Q,K,A = 20 cards = 45%)

Thanks, Gerv. I didn't really understand about the relative position thing - but I read an article about it now and it's clearer.

However, do you mean that SB could have random overcards here, which he might hit on the river and then bet? e.g. AJ (calls on flop with 2 overs and g/shot)? Is that what you had in mind? Reason I ask is I would be a bit surprised if AJ/KQ etc calls vs two players on this flop - but maybe I misunderstood?

Cheers

both players could have overcards and you dont want to see a bet on the River on an overcard in which starts the guessing game for you (does he really have the overcard or not)

Ok thanks - I definitely understand that we don't want a guessing game. My only query is whether we expect decent players (maybe incorrect that these two are decent) to peel this flop with unpaired overs?

Thanks

I think a good player could definitely peel the flop with something like AJ (maybe with an additional backdoor-FD, but only in position.

He'd either squeeze AT+ preflop or c/f the flop if he had some of those.
I think since he overcalls OOP he mostly has a weak hand, so I don't only bet to protect my hand and escape the guessing game, but also because he might make the mistake of check/calling again with a weaker pair.
