How to play this hand best? 3-bet preflop, then wait 5sec and call followed by quick bet or raise at turn? Or should I just raise as I did to protect hand?

I think 2Bet the flop is correct. There are too many cards that would put you in a very tough situation (5-9, spades). It's just so happens that he was trying to steal the pot this hand.
call flop yes. if you raise the flop, you already narrow down your range to a very strong hand. one rule in poker is too give away information as late as possible and if he has a pair, he will probably fire the turn again and then you gain more value. it's unlikely that he plays bet/3bet with an 8. with a 4 and a 7, pairs that have been more likely than an 8 bet the turn again and probably play bet/call but just play bet/calldown to a flopraise. if he folds, well. then he did an uncorrect fold with his 5 outs (assumed that the turn doesn't bring a pair on the board)
the flopraise is not really well balanced as you would also just call with your overcards and especially in position you can hide away your handstrenght to the turn. you would be too easy to read if you'd just call with overcards but raise each good pair on the flop.
really strange what he did fold on the flop.
