--- blog below ---

howdy folks. Ive been pretty disorganized and I figured id get some free labour ( YOU!) to keep me on track, as everybody knows they dont do stupid sh*t when someone is watching them .Im gonna post my experiences with HUSNGs here from time to time to keep my BR honest and my progress transparant. After going through a rough patch and totally ignoring BRM, I figured it was about time I acted my age and not my shoesize when it came to poker and the money involved. :f_cool:.

Ive been lurking here for quite some time, but for those who dont know me:

Name: Conall Ó Gribín
Age: 22
Location: Northern Ireland
profession: newly hired sales consultant in a mobile phone shop/ freelance pc repair tech
hobbies: poker ( obv!) , piano (n00b level), japanese, chinese, movies :f_biggrin:

what ive played:
9 max SnGs ( $2.25 turbs on FT/ $3.40 turbs on PS) <not doing anymore>
9 max cash (5NL then quit, sooo boring imo )
MTTs ( $5k winnings _cool: )
HUSNGs (just started learning these!)

ive vowed never to deposit my own money, unless it came from poker, and I intend to stick to that plan forever.

so time to reveal all and report how low my bankroll has sunk, thanks to ignoring BRM, bills/donkaments & running bad etc , ( don't get me started on MTTs X( )

Current Balance : $94.44

Currently playing: $6.25 HUSNGs (dropping back down to $2.20s if roll goes below $60, but frankly the rake is horrendous so id probs play the $2.09 4 mans instead.)

hoping to play a few tomorrow, so il get started in earnest then. Il also be posting pics when I actually get the finger thats firmly lodged in my rectum out, wash it, and cook a dinner for my folks, who deserve more! :f_frown: .

until then ! see you soon!

let the conversion begin:

to

(happy lady not included) :] , and hopefully not a sexchange either! _o:

hectic day today, haven't played a hand of poker yet. decided to cook for my folks as my mum was under pressure today and had to go into work.

so I, disdainer of the bland baked potato, decided it would be a nice idea to cook chicken tikka masala for the first time :)

spicy food ftw!

turned out OK. I added a decent amount of yoghurt, but the damn thing ended splitting on me, so it could have gone better. one of my favourite dishes, so I didn't complain too much. it was still tastey :f_biggrin:

thanks to my insane bodyclock which tells me the worms are out in force after midnight ( I R night owl :3 ) , I think il be starting my session at around midnight tonight. until then, adieu ;)

The other difference between a Poker Player and a Pizza is that the poker player is usually better tomorrow then today

Well, well. A blog from Mr Conall! I notice there's no poker masterplan, which every one else seems to have. What are you going to concentrate on? I'll be watching! Nice curry btw. I was out playing the first chess match of the season tonight. Poker is soooo much more fun. Said I'd play though. Shit game, but he made the last blunder. :f_biggrin:

no poker master plan, Il sort that out when I have a long enough sample to happily say im profitable.

my last session did not go well at all. I ended up losing 4 buyins to the same guy ( a station), and getting owned by stations in general.

Current Balance : $94.44 - $42.19 =$52.15

because of this I have since dropped back down to the $2 level (sigh).

adjustments I have been using are:
minraising/limping in pos
betting half pot on flop as opposed to 2/3 or 3/4 pot when cbetting.
a slight change to my opening range
3betting hands like K8s+ K9o , A8s+ etc vs his limps if hes calling a lot so I can build a pot with a good edge.

unfortunately this does not seem to be enough or Im just running like shit, or both.

I figure I'd post a few key hands:

Calling 90% doesn't mean he will raise you often. By 3betting in that hand, you isolate yourself against only stronger hands almost every time. After his 4bet, there is nothing in his range anymore that you could possible hope to ever beat -> fold. There are a lot of ways to play this hand if you have more information (stats, reads), but the way you played it is amongst the worst possible ones.

lol ty for the heads up. "Need to think about dealing with a 4bet here in future I think though" covers that I think.

as a reward Il get you a link to that recipe :)

Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe

thats the one I used. tip: don't skimp on the yoghurt as most of it reduces v fast when you cook it, and you want lots of sauce, trust me!

took a stab at some $1 MTTs and a few HUSNGs today. got really deep in both MTTs, and ended up min cashing :(.

balance: $40 ( AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)

the key hand of the day is this for certain:

almost folded , but conluded that
I had to call and hate it. 4.25:1 pot odds on flop and 21% equity minimum meant im commited. gg me though. I put this in the MTT hand eval section for anyone who is interested and wants to talk about it.

Had a nice rail from Alex knight on mikogo, and he seemed interested in my MTT strategy, so will be making a replay of the entire MTT at a later date and will probably post it. HUSNGs are killing my soul at the moment, and Im really loathe to play them since Im still struggling to peace together a strategy which does not get owned by calling stations ( 30/60-50/100 levels). needless to say if I find info for these il be studying them. I found a nice article about the 25/50 level over on 2p2 , so il be reading their HUSNG section.

@offtopic if any HUSNG regs wants to coach me for a % of future profits for a certain amount of time, PM me. please have a sample of 850 games min.

why im soul crushed right now:

current HU graphs:
this couple with the facts im running 10 buyins under EV at the 9 max $3.40 turbos has demolished my bankroll...
I know these swings arent even close to what I should expect, but it is a bit of a soul crush when every single variant you play is going -ve!

4 man HU shootouts $2.25s and $6.25s together:

2 man HU SnGs:

9 max sngs:

unfortunately my bankroll cant handle the swings anymore..

yea in hu sngs there are times like that,i am down about 200$ last 3 days from 11$ sngs.Stop playing, review game,go on.Also times like these are good for reading something, anything poker strat related.

Good luck

not bad for someone who doesnt play cash at all ^_^

ended up watching nigella lawson on tv cooking some interesting stuff

she can come over to cook for me any day she likes :f_biggrin:

Marmite Spaghetti anyone ?(

lol, so she ended up cooking some thai fishcakes with some weird salsa like sauce, so I figure il try it out since I dont like fish much, but fishcakes tend to be an exception, and I love spicy stuff :)

thinking il cook homemade pizza next after it.
