1920x1200 vs 1920x1080 monitors

Is there a compelling reason not to have one of each?
If you can get a good 24" cheap take it.

I have two 22" 1920x1080 and they're OK

The most important thing is that the use set the screen resolution to the "native resolution" or "preferred resolution" of the monitor.

That way every logical pixel is matched to a single physical pixel. This makes the picture much cleaner.

Problem is i have searched the internet and ALL of them recommend 1920x1200 over 1920:1080 for some reason i dont understand. its so little difference between them.

I checked around a bit, and other than a bit of extra space, I don't see what the difference is.

Will you be watching any video on it?
If so, then the 1920x1080 is the native resolution of HDMI, so that might tip it in your favour.

I could not find any reasonably priced 1920x1200 monitors ether -- not in 24" anyway.
The 1920x1080 resolution was almost always cheaper.

I don't think the 1080 is going to hurt you much, and if you can save money why not?

If the "why not" includes, "gee, I wish I had spent the extra $$ and got 11% more screen" then go with the bigger. You'll be looking at this for a long time.

With regards to poker, 1920x1080 is the resolution that allows to tile 12 min-sized tables (about 480x360 at major rooms), but with 1920x1200, it's hard, though not impossible, to have 16 tables quasi-tiled - they'll have an 80-pixel vertical overlap ((360*4-1200)/3=80).

On my desktop, I have 1280x1024 and quasi-tile 9 tables with 80-pixel horizontal and 28-pixel vertical overlap, and that barely suffices to see my hole cards and all opps' stacks sizes. With an 80-pixel vertical overlap, I'd barely see upper opps' bet sizes, leave alone stack sizes and avatars.

So tiled 16-tabling on a 1920x1200 display is not so comfortable. Then why pay more for a bigger monitor when plain full HD suffices?

Yeah but who plays on the minimum sized tables ♠_cool:. Very hard for the hud, specially mine that have 39 numbers on it :P. I want to play as close to the original table as possible. But I read a article with a Pokerstars pro Tyler Frost where he said that he allways grinds 24 tables stacking them. So it is possible with a laptop screen aswell ♦.

Is it possible to do this for a laptop? It is easier to play with multiple screens.

24 tabling is possible with 1200x900.
Been there, done this.

Maybe possible but it will definitely takes a lot of effort.
