Allowing Skype

agree it can be a bit inconvenient, but there are valid reasons for not giving out your skype on forums - especially for husng players, due to the DDos/DC cheaters using skype i/ds to force sit-outs and blind down your equity - I've seen RyPac warning peeps abt this over there on his forum and on the big one ("=4") and I think it's still relevant (?)
(I also noticed a division-member didn't seem bothered by that, and was happy to post his, so maybe it's not such an issue anymore - I'm not sure?)

- maybe it would sit better with members if PStrgy made a statement explaining WHY this is kept in place, then folks wouldn't just see it as an unnecessary annoyance/hindrance?

- personally, I subscribe (in theory) to the idea that forum and irl should mostly be kept separate, (I didn't even consider this when making my u/ns originally - wish I had, tbh) but in reality peeps like to socialise/network and know who they are communicating with etc., and most regular forum users know each others' real names anyway - online anonymity is tricky when there are so many ways to check ppl out thru fb/twitter/google etc

I think it could/should be a personal choice and thus not restricted by forum law.

It's worth noting the Russian and Czech communities don't enforce this ban too rigorously if the handle is posted not for spam purposes. (For some reason, people in RU like to hide handles into spoilers, though I don't know how it helps. In other cases, a member posts his handle temporarily and then edits it out after the needed person contacts him, which would work fine in EN too if the mods weren't so vigilant.)

There is even the emoticon, which has been used actively in RU to denote that a Skype handle follows.

It's allowed in other communites. It's allowed in DE for sure.

Regarding e-mail addresses, it's safer not to allow them due to the so-called harvesting bots the and risk of getting on a spam list.

It might be a good idea for members wishing to post there skype addresses to tag the addresses with the smiley.
That might slow down the bots a bit.

Personally I don't see the issue but of course it comes down to the user at the end of the day. They can stil reject skype contact requests. Happy days.
