to win down. So I took the risk of moving up in stakes,bankroll not with standing.Ok at first I took a beating,then slowly breaking even. Then I went back down in stakes and +++ ev. So is there a case for testing yourself from time to time, to improve your game.

Yeah, but only within proper BRM and if you're beating the stakes you are playing already

As NightFostaSS says, you need to follow proper bankroll management and it is a good idea to move up only if you are beating the stakes that you are at. I advise reading this article. It's very pertinent to your situation me thinks.
