PokerStars, Hold'em No Limit - $0.01/$0.02 - 5 players
Hand delivered by Upswing Poker

UTG: $0.80 (40 bb)
CO: $2.91 (146 bb)
BU (Hero): $2.66 (133 bb)
SB: $2.15 (108 bb)
BB: $2.58 (129 bb)

Pre-Flop: ($0.03) Hero is BTN with 6 6
2 players fold, Hero raises to $0.06, SB calls $0.05, BB 3-bets to $0.22, Hero calls $0.16, 1 fold

Flop: ($0.50) 4 Q J (2 players)
BB bets $0.28, BU (Hero) folds

so how does this all work, we need 10:1 here to set-mine correctly?

there is 0.33c in the pot already, we need to put in 0.17 to win (opponents stack) + (money in the pot)

0.17 to win 1.93+0.33

0.17 to win 2.26

2.26/0.17= 13.29

so we are getting roughly 13:1. we can profitably call pre-flop and hope to set-mine? I am check-folding when we miss here.

In the olden days, there was the "call 20 rule"
The idea was that if the effective stack was more than 20x the required bet, go ahead and call.

Here you need to call 0.16, and the effective stack needs to be $3.20, so mathematically no.

There may be other reasons to call though -- for example if the opponent calls wide and is known to fold to post-flop aggression

haha forgive my math . long day today. I think I remember the call20 rule being in the lessons on this site. I thought I heard something about 10:1 , I've read something about 15:1, I cant keep up with all the odds it gets confusing. would like to know if there is a universal one everyone is using, as I have not really been using any lately so I think I should start.

Your ip and you can continue without a set so it's not a pure set mine as your not folding all flops without a set,66 is a call here imo.

Okay to call, I don’t use the 20x rule I go a little lower like 15x…. But like everything dependent on villains..

If you think even if you hit the set and villain will not get all in then it isn’t worth it…

Keep grinding

With a 40bb stack you should fold pocket 66 preflop if first to act. You should be playing 88+ only with this stack size. Because you decided to play it, I would 4/bet jam or fold. Depending on the villain's playing style of course. If he is tight it's a fold. If he's laggy it's a jam. But I would not ordinarily 4/bet jam pocket 66s because I play 100bb stacks but sometimes have done so against a maniac short stacker when the effective stacks is like 40bb. Of course, they always show up with AK JJ+.

They are almost 130bb deep, not 40bb.

I find this really interesting...

I agree it's a call pre-flop vs BB's 3-bet, but surprised by the flop-call on this board... I'm usually only continuing here with some kind of a draw (rare as that may be)...

I understand that range vs range this board hits us both fairly well, but unless your game-plan here includes a later street bluff, or you are hoping for it to check down on later streets, what do you do if he bets the turn and/or the river?

What is your game-plan when you call on this flop?
Am I giving up too much value by folding on these type of flops that miss my hand completely?

This isn't a flop i would continue on "66 is a call pre"

I used to use the call20 rule, but I don't anymore. My call depends on bet sizing, villains position, my position, reads on the villain and other players involved.

ok, I misunderstood and thought you were saying to continue on the flop as well. Thanks for clarification. :f_thumbsup:
