I mean he called u from BTN so he could hold worse hands than usually since he will be IP. So TBH i would have put him on a trips with maybe A4 K4 maybe too. I think your bet was to small anyways, just 1/3 pot, i dont know how u bet before but thats just not enough. Since he could have pocket pairs wich look very good on this board.

Conclusion, unlucky. He maybe woudlnt even call the riverbet by you without the 8 so if HE thinks you have a high pocket pair or the J what would he do? he would fold to that bet obv. so either you know him as a bluffer and u know he likes to take his chance or what i think is really the deal, that he actully hit or had already a monster like J4 in his hand.

tbh it was bad that i saw the results. I think in the end i would have called him too because there are much more hands we can beat. But that he had a pocket pair was very likely.

Your bet on the flop is too small. If you want to be tricky , you can play small bet-big bet and give up. On this boards OOP. Obv we can't bet big on the turn anymore . I mean must be as pure bluff.
With normal flop C-bet , on the turn the only options are check-call and check-fold. Depends from the size. If the board was not paired , 70-40-70% will be a good option. With and without flush on the river. There are other options, because the SD value with A9. Sounds funny maybe :). But if the board was not paired....I mean your SD value with Ax is higher on paired boards. ,but you can't bet on the turn with FD.
