Hey guys,

I was watching this video: http://de.pokerstrategy.com/video/33137/
Starting at 55:00, I don´t get the Flopcall. We are behind against almost anything and there is hardly any good Turn besides the Qd and we are never ever going to be good without improve

For everbody with less than silverstatus:
Hero 3xt from the CU with KsQsQhAh and the blinds called. Flop came 4c5c9h. SB bettet 0,51$ in a pot of 0,81$ and BB called.
B was just about 45B deep

How about any heart, T or J from turn? +possibly the best hand

any heart gives us a flushdraw only, wich is still quite weak actually
and T or J gives us a gutter only, wich isn´t strong at all

if we currently have the best hand we can easily be pushed of it on any turn that doesn´t help us. Also we aren´t really far ahead

Like i said, i called because of the backdoors;

a) We can have the best hand
b) Any board pair is good for us a decent amout of the time
c) The price is great; we need to invest 50c for a pot of 2.40$, so we basically need 20% equity there to make the call.
d) We have position

we have to invest 51 cents in a pot of 1.88$, so we need about 28% equity
how are you going to play the rest of the hand if the turn bricks?

Your math is wrong. You have to include the entire pot after the call.

If the turn bricks i'm folding to further agression

if that was so, it would be profitable to call 1$ into a 0$ pot if we win it more than 50% of the time

Well if someone bets $1 into a pot of 0, we indeed need to win it 50% of times. It's called flipping a coin. :)

what I was saying is you can´t say it´s profitable winning back the chips you call when you would save them by folding

Umm... Folding is always EV 0. Sometimes investing money is +EV.

Are you really arguing how required equity is calculated? Skod is right, and no power in the world can change that.

Just think about coin flip. Pot is 0, and I bet 1 and you call 1. How much you need equity (winning chance) to be break even? Is it 50% like Skod says or 100% like you say?

If you think about a neutral ev spot, where calling or folding produces you 0 in the long run it does not make the call profitable. For example, say your on the turn and a spot like that arises, a call may produce you 0bb in the long run but implieds come in to it, if for example you can play rivers perfectly and villain is going to be aggressive on river then you make money. In your view you do not consider implied odds on a call, definitely worth considering.

Ofc a 0 call doesn't make it profitable, it's brake even. And ofc there are a lot of spots where you have to count on implieds. That's obvious. But that's not the question here at all. The only question is if OP understands his math is wrong for calculating direct odds
