I’ve been looking through my hand histories, and I noticed something. When I look at my VPIP, there’s a big difference between PLO5 and PLO10. At PLO5 my VPIP is usually between 10–14 (sometimes a bit higher), while at PLO10 it’s between 18–23.

I try to play as much as possible according to the trainer, but at PLO5 that doesn’t seem to work as well. Should I adjust my game?

I’m posting this here because I really don’t know where else to ask.

Probably the reason is that default solver strategy is often tight to enter multiway pots, which happens a lot in PLO5. There are also limpers, and depending on your strategy versus them it often lowers the VPIP.

I am 100% sure that if we make a sim where all opponents are average 65/10/4 PLO5 players and passive postflop, the preflop solution would be very different.

Solver strategy is not optimal, unless all opponents are playing it too. But it's a gpod default strategy until you become better and learn how to adjust your default strategy to even better (based on the player pool and environment).

Even in PLO5 you make money with strong hands. No shame in being tight.
