well isn't that a sweeping generalisation. There is no optimal vpip for 6 max, rather an optimal vpip depending on opponents. If you have a bunch of 50/30 or 40/35 players then playing tighter 15/12 is actually beneficial. Put ranges into pokerstove and you'll see how different equities come from different ranges.
Its actually quite interesting and will improve your preflop game (at least it did mine). then you can take it one step further by looking at how different ranges are equity wise vs certain types of flops. the loose player for example will have a higher equity vs a nit on say a 865 rainbow flop
