not interested in creating a "stable", but here are my thoughs on the hand, please tell me your thoughts/what you expected as an answer.

Hero should not call preflop, we are certainly an underdog to the CO's range, especially given CO's stack size.
On the flop we hit middle pair and a flush draw and CO bets under half pot, which warrants a call here in my opinion. We have 13 outs (9 spades, 2 eights and 2 fours), which means we improve by the turn about 30% of the time and by the river about 50% of the time. Thus, since the pot odds are about 3.5:1, a call is warranted, and we still might have implied odds.
I expect our opponent to 3bet most of his range on this flop, thus his check on the turn comes as no surprise. He now probably does not have a jack, since he probably would have bet it for value/protection. Also, all kinds of sets are now less probable. I think he will most likely have some kind of overpair or two overcards.
In my opinion we should consider betting the turn since our pair of eights will now often be the best hand.
The 5 on the river is a blank, so if we have not bet the turn, I think betting here as a bluff should be ok.
