Hey Dude,

Sorry I havnt read all the posts in the thread so maybe someone has already said what im about to say.. but anyways.

Id recommend to do sports or workout. The endorphine that will come after the sports effort will help fight depression and it should probably make you feel better in the long run!!! + staying health (eating right/sleeping enough) is very good for depression.

Hope this helps!!

+1000!

I'd add that when you do sports/workout you should push yourself a bit and don't stop when it starts to be harder to workout, then you'll feel really awesome.

Alot of what depression boils down to is how each person handles their given situation. Half glass full/empty type of thing. The most important thing to realise is that feelings and emotions are temporary. Doesn't matter how long it takes you to overcome your problems, as long as you strive for the bigger picture of living without depression, you'll get there.

Basically training yourself how to handle another bad situation so that it doesn't affect your life as much =)
Another factor is history.
When some bad circumstances happen, we tend to compare it to the worst we've ever endured. If it isn't as bad, well then it isn't so bad. We shrug it off and say things like, "Pffft, I've been through worse".
If it is]/b] the worst that has ever happened, we go through several identifiable stages, the last of which is "moving on".
Now we have a new standard to measure our tragedies against.

I know im depressed.

3 years of various fitness programs, therapists, meds, drugs and other austerity measures have failed to change my self-deprecating state of mind.

I have also never found anything at which i truly excel.

Poker just cements my belief that im useless.

Depression is not something to be taken lightly... and i for one have yet to find any relief. Who knows if there is a cure.

Do you want something? Do you need something?

Do you miss something?- e.g memories, ex wife/girl

if you tried CBT it didnt work the way you talk to yourself is important........

You cant be useless; you are alive, can use a computer, can play poker, can discuss a subject that is taboo among many people, can express you real feelings on something, can admit (perceived) defeat, can take steps to get better, etc etc. I could go on.

Try reading something inspiring like 'a child called it' by david pelzer. he's a bit cheesy now but that book is good.

I don't mean to judge anyone, but I would think playing poker is not a good thing to do when you're depressed. I feel that overall poker takes more happiness then it gives.

I think poker can make you feel good and can make you feel bad. I am doign this - when poker makes me feel bad, (I start to tilt, loose big stack, etc.) I quit playing and go to do something else - play tennis, dring beer etc. Just stop playing when you are in bad mood for it. Its a game, it has to make enjoyment.

I don't what to do if you are living from it, that much more dificult question, since you have to play otherwise you will not have money.
