I check my balance every 30 mins or so, but I generally already know what to expect based on the balances on my tables. Cake's auto rebuy feature doesn't work, so when I rebuy I do it manually and hence remember how much money I have in play and how much I added.

That may be done through bragging or complaining, depending on the outcome. Now, I recovered half-a-buy-in in a 30 min session despite having this little setup unfolding in front of me:

Got $100 rakeback today and managed to lose it in 15 minutes. Then spent the next two hours grinding it back together, which didn't work. Bluffs got called, winners didn't get paid off, the usual stuff. Lost some more over the course of the session, down 2.5 BI total, 2 of which were "compensated" by rakeback. This is not devastating, but I really don't enjoy losing sessions, and complaining helps...
Well, what can I say... 6 hours of grinding at what statistically should be the most profitable tables ever on Cake. All rewarded with a 4BI downswing. Every time I work up a little bit, I lose it double on one hand. For example:

If Cake supported stats, I think my EV line would have reached record depths. I mean, twelve 30+VPiP tables, and every time I stick my money in I seem to be behind, how logical is that? Started the day with $2600, now dangling cheerfully at $2400. Even tightening up my game didn't help. Somehow I just either win a small pot or lose a huge one... ♠_cry:

Yes, it's that time of day again where I run out of cash, out of drugs and out of my mind. After a jolly 2 hour session of 2-tabling on Pacific I lost my $120. First one was a delightful little setup where my jacks full run into the only possible better hand. Quad fives, yay! -$62 and on to the next one where my flopped trips get rivered by a straight, goodbye dear stack. Playing with 2.5BI isn't exactly professional BRM, but I don't see the point in playing NL5, and it's not like those $120 were the last of my savings. I run like a crippled turtle on Stars too, but at least I'm making profit there, so I'll spare you my bitching for now. I need a cigarette...

wow such a long downswing and still you manage to get platinumstar. Could you maybe play to long when it is not going well? I ask because I had the same problem if I lost I kept on playing and mostly just lose even more. I try now to cap my losses and think it is better that way.

My friend was sitting next to me during the session, and when I went outside to smash some stuff he decided it was a fun idea to film me. We both had a good laugh at the clip, and then I told him I'll kill him and use his body as a stress pillow for punching if he puts it on the internet. Now that I think about it, it actually might be entertaining for others to watch, maybe I'll post it myself some day. In a few SH (5max) games I won 3.5 stacks back, got lucky a few times, but still... Hopefully this nightmare is over, at least for now. If not, I will post more anguished cries.
Many would agree that the worst feeling in poker is grinding through blood, sweat and tears, collecting that hard earned money only to lose it all in one go to some fish who doesn't have the slightest idea what he just did. Most people will try to resolve this issue by addressing their rationale, reminding themselves (or others) that money comes from players like that. But what do you say to someone who ground for days on end to win a monthly salary and lost it all in a few hours to runner-runner straights and rivered two-pairs? How do you tell someone it's going to be okay when hours of hard work and accomplishments crumble in front of his eyes as he stands powerless to stop it?
All of this is brutal reality of poker, things that happen to us day in and day out. It's painful, it's depressing, it's demoralizing. Feels like fate itself is playing a cruel joke on you, and you're the only one who doesn't get the punch line. At times like this we turn to whatever we have that can comfort us and reassure us it's not the end, giving us that sparkle of hope we need to get back on our feet. It can be anything, music, a hobby, a game, a brisk walk. I myself am a great believer in talking about problems as a means of resolving them. So when I feel gloomy, I turn to the community and express whatever is gnawing inside by a wall of text. Doesn't matter if anyone reads it, just letting it out does the trick.
Now, for all you who are wondering what the devil is wrong with me this time, I'm sad to say I'm 7 stacks down on NL100SH, and running 9 stacks below EV. To be expected in SH games, I know. But try and visualize yourself playing a solid game and losing 700 euro, the feeling is indescribable...
I lost four stacks today to some retard who ended up having over 800bb when I got sick of getting bad beats and left. Four times he sucked out on me. As a result I don't even have a sufficient roll for NL100 anymore. I'm well aware of the fact that this is mentioned in every downswing thread, but still I can hardly get over the fact that I lose money and that it goes to an idiot who doesn't deserve it. I'll cry myself to sleep now...
