Poker is a funny old game.

What a rollercoaster it can be.

This month i had my biggest ever win in a MTT, it was glorious. The next 7 or 8 days i crushed cash. It was so easy, i couldn't lose. Out of those days i had a few plus £200 days. Poker was just giving, there was no suck outs - the best hand was holding up.

Then for the past week, it's mostly just been brutal. Instead of winning most days, i was losing. A few days ago I decided i wasn't going to have a break for a few days.

Some of this has been spew, a good amount of it, but a lot of it was coolers. The coolers and run bad resulted in spew / just playing terrible.

It's amazing how quickly your confidence can turn at poker.

Don't get me wrong, it has been an amazing month for me, my best to date profit wise, but sometimes it is hard dealing with downswings. Please roller coaster be on the way up and run good on it's way again:)

Why the post?

Bit of poker therapy i guess ;)

How do you deal with downswings?

Hi guys,

Moved this to a more appropriate board for you. :)

Personally I scream and shout and curse quite a lot and quite loudly, then I shut up and get on with it.

Edit: Of course I have used alcohol as well on occasion.

But then I am a very experienced expert downswinger, so don't try this at home folks.

My latest was 1200+ to 12+ in less than a blink. X(

Regards and try keep having fun,

Mal.

I usually get up, turn around, punch my mattress as hard as I can. Take a few deep breaths, then sit back down and try to get on with it

The more I play, the less I seem to care about bad beats, although some definitely put me to the test. Like losing quads to a runner runner where the villain had to hit those exact two cards to make a straight flush after he got it in with a flush draw... Don't even want to know what the odds are of that, but it resulted in me calling it a day for that session because I lost a 3 BI stack on it...

Iarsonic, if a downswing is bothering you, take a few days off. I know a lot of people say to play through it, that improving your psychological approach is important, but what works for some may not work for you.

Take a few days off. Eat well, exercise, get some sun and fresh air. Why not withdraw some of your MTT win and have fun or buy a new toy? Or play a few live games with friends or in a casino.

And most importantly, try to have some good sex with a beautiful girl/guy.

Either that or have a good hand shandy. Always works for me!

lol goodness

Poker therapy posts work!

All is gravy in the poker world again, won another MTT after that post.

Just weird how a down swing can make you question everything and on a heater you just think you are unstoppable
