It sucks but that's just the way it is.
The most certain way to avoid going to showdown is to fold.
Not as certain, but more profitable, it so get your opponent to fold.
They will respect your raises, if you fold enough so that your raises have meaning.
This is why we play "tight-aggressive". When we must show down, we show a good hand.
Therefore, when we raise a river, or re-raise a turn, we get folds.
When we don't get folds, we can fold ourselves -- if necessary.
